I’d only hadmy wolf for a short time, but he hadn’t been tough to control before now. As I saw Kate shift spontaneously, I tried to return to my skin, but I couldn’t.

Her wolf was much smaller than mine and I could feel his excitement of meeting her for the first time.

When she rubbed up against me, my wolf practically purred, and I felt a strong sense of peace that I couldn’t have imagined possible.

My only fear was that my wolf wouldn’t let me shift back, like ever. When I tried to make it happen, he pushed images of Kate into my mind.

Mine!he said, and the accompanying roar was audible.

I feared everyone in the house must have heard it.

I quickly scrambled to shift and this time, my wolf obeyed.

Kate followed my lead and shifted back too just as the door to her bedroom flew open.

I instinctively stepped in front of her to shield her naked body from view.

“What the hell?” Austin roared.

I could see the tips of his ears turning red and that was never a good sign.

“Austin, it’s not what you think,” I started.

“It’s also none of your damn business, so get out of my room,” Kate yelled from behind me.

She tried to step around me, but I blocked her every step of the way. There was no way in hell my friends were going to stand there ogling my mate while she wasn’t wearing any clothes.

Shit!When did I start thinking of Kate as my mate?

It was too late. The damage was done. Our wolves had met, and I could literally feel a bond growing between us. It was unlike anything I’d ever had with Ashley before.

Mine!my wolf snarled.

Yes,I conceded. Kate was meant to be mine.

I didn’t want it. I wasn’t ready for it. But I knew in my heart it was true. It wasn’t so much that I wanted her. I needed her like I needed air to breathe.

What the hell was happening to me?

Now really wasn’t the time for such a revelation when Austin looked like he was contemplating challenging me to the death over his cousin’s virtue.

“Nothing happened Austin. I was just showing her my wolf.”

“Oh, he was showing her something alright,” Emmett teased, grinning like a damn fool.

James fist bumped him in agreement.

Clay just shook his head while Thomas stared daggers at me.

“Why the hell would she want to see your wolf?”

“Oh, I dunno, maybe because she drew a picture of me.”

“Kate draws and cooks?” Clay asked.

“Yeah, she does a lot of things, you idiot. I bet she can even walk and chew gum at the same time.”
