Page 103 of One More Kiss

I press my lips against his and kiss him. I'm not sure how long we stayed there under the stars, kissing in front of the fire. It felt like it lasted forever.

The memory of that night makes my skin tingle as he lifts me up into his arms and carries me into the cabin. He must have come down earlier to get it ready. There are candles everywhere and the small bed is covered in scattered rose petals. The door shuts behind us and he lays me down on the bed. The scent of the roses fills the air, mixing with the sweet aroma of the lit candles and the earthy scent of the cabin.

I stare into his eyes as he unzips my dress and I shiver when he leans down and kisses my collarbone.

Thankfully, his mom took Corbin for the night. She was so excited to be a grandmother that she never minds watching him when we need some time alone. For the first time in my little boy's life he has someone that loves him just as much as I do.

Just like for the first time in my life, I have someone who loves me as much as I love them. David pulls my dress down my shoulders and I can feel the warmth of his breath against my skin. Goosebumps cover my entire body and I shudder.

He doesn't rush, though. He takes his time, kissing my neck and shoulders, slipping the straps of my dress down my arms. Once my dress stops covering me, he pauses.

"You're so beautiful," he says. "I could look at you forever and it still wouldn't be long enough."

I reach up and pull him down to stare into his stunning blue eyes. "Do you remember when you told me I'd live to see the wonder of the world another day?"

We'd talked about that day in more detail since we met. His memory is not exactly like mine, he didn't replay those words over and over in his head like I did for years, but he knows what he told me and that it kept me going even when I didn't want to.

"Yeah," he said. "Of course."

I press myself against his body, my hands sliding into his hair. His scent washes over me, an ocean filled with masculine spice and sandalwood and fresh air. I gasped as the heat of his breath hits my face. "You were right," I say as I trace my fingers down the length of his jaw. It was a whisper of reassurance to both of us. "You told me that I would find the wonder in the world, and you were right." Every morning I get to wake up next to you is like waking up to the most glorious rainbow. It's a reminder that things get better. That storms stop raging. That life gets better."

run my fingers through his hair as I look into his eyes. They are filled with love. "I love you. This is the best day of my life. But I have a request."

"Anything," he whispers, barely able to speak between kisses.

"Promise me that this is only the beginning. That we'll have a million days just like this. That we'll laugh together for the rest of our lives. That we'll never stop chasing the wonder of the world together."

He pulls me close to him once more.

"I promise."
