“But that’s good, yeah? Your baby daddy has finally figured out he loves you and wants you back?”

“It’s been fifteen years, Liandra,” said Jett. “It doesn’t feel right.”

“Maybe time travels differently over there.” I shrugged.

“But even so, why now?” Jett placed the dart onto the table. “We’re missing something.”

“Anyway, I don’t need to be here. I’ve got things to do.” I shrugged on my jacket and edged towards the door. “I’ll check in with you guys later.”

“Stop.” Jett’s voice was an order and I cursed myself for obeying. “You can’t leave. We can’t assume it was Clara he was after. It could be something to do with that gem you’re so fond of, which would make me the target.”

He shot me a piercing look. “Or it could be you. We don’t know for sure but until we do we’re all staying put.”

I hadn’t considered that it might be me the shooter was after. I didn’t have any enemies, not really. Perhaps the fact it was a Fae changed things. Especially given my plans.

But my father didn’t know about me. Did he?

And he certainly wasn’t a Fae prince. Mom would have told me that. No, my Fae father was some run of the mill Faery dirt bag, one who kidnapped daughters, and didn’t care one bit about their mothers. Nothing like Clara’s Midnight Prince.

Not at all.

Anything they had in common was just a coincidence.
