Chapter4

“Not to worry, my love.”Edan took my hands in his once more. “I’ve been planning this for quite some time. I have an idea.” He reached up and brushed a lock of hair away from my face. “You may disagree, although…” He trailed off.

“What is it? At this point, Edan, I’m out of ideas. I haven’t the slightest solution as to how we can make this work without the Fairy Godmother Guild coming down upon my head.”

“That’s the thing. I believe I do.” Edan’s expression was so hopeful, it made my heart pitter-patter in my chest.

“Well, don’t keep me in suspense. What is it?”

“Give me a moment. I have something to give you first. Something I hope you will accept.” He kissed my cheek and dashed out of the room.

Excitement raced like electricity throughout the space, dancing and tickling the back of my skull. The hair on my arms lifted and stood at attention.

What on Fairy could he possibly be talking about? I was freaking out and wondering what would happen between us, and he was speaking of gifts? I knew Griselda would not be kind about my inability to finish the job. She had no idea of the relationship I’d had with Prince Edan most of my life.

Or, perhaps she did and that’s why I was given this particular assignment. As a test of sorts. I wouldn’t put it past her, the old bitty. She’d never cared for me, much like everyone else. To her, I was no different than my mother. Griselda was only waiting for me to slipup just as Beatrice (dear old Mom) had.

My mother had stolen my future from me—the future I’d been promised as I climbed the ranks to become a fairy godmother. I often wondered how my life would have been if Mother hadn’t broken her wand, but I knew it was a fool’s errand. It wasn’t as if fairies were ever granted wishes. We granted them. That was just how the world of Fairy worked. I’d lived it long enough in my twenty-three years, but I would find a way to be with Edan. Perhaps with his help, it could truly happen, and I would indeed get my happily ever after.

Edan rushed back into the sitting room, breaking me from my thoughts. “I apologize. I found it.”

I rose a brow in question. “What would that be?”

He smiled. “What would make me the happiest man alive.”

“Now you’re being cryptic, Edan.” I tried to grin, my nerves a jumbled mess of chaos inside me. “Please, just tell me what it is you’re trying to say.”

He ran a hand through his hair. “If you give up being a fairy godmother and…marry me, become my Queen as I ascend to the throne, there is nothing the guild can do about it.”

My mouth fell open. “You mean, not be a godmother? Give up my wand and my wings? Edan, that’s all I’ve ever known. What shall I do?”

He placed his hands on my shoulders and met my gaze. “You’ll have me, be my wife, and have the free will you’ve always longed for—and love.”

My mind was spinning. Could this possibly be true? Could I give up my wings and wand, become powerless? Live without magic to be with my one true love? I stared into the waiting eyes of the man I’d always loved. Yes, yes, I could. It was the one thing I’d always dreamed of but had been denied.

I nodded, unable to form a coherent thought just yet.

He then dropped to one knee and pulled a pink, square-cut diamond ring from his pocket. “Tatiana, will you be mine, now and forever?”

My thoughts were coherent now. “Yes, Edan, I’ll be your wife. Yes!” I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him to stand, and kissed him once more. This time, I took the lead. And, oh, my… it was explosive!

Edan parted my mouth, and our tongues danced together like a well-played symphony. I leaned into his body, feeling the hard planes of his chest, and I couldn’t get enough. I wanted him nearer, closer. He tangled his hands in my hair and drew me in, and I wrapped my legs around his waist.

I honestly had no idea what the hell I was doing, but it seemed so right. And then, I felt something hard jutting quite close to my center. Oh. My. Goddess. This was what all the fairies talked about? I rocked against him, eliciting a groan from his mouth as he came up for air.

Giggling, I went back for more but was halted. “What is it? Did I do something wrong?”

Edan’s heated gaze bore into me. “No. Not at all. But if we don’t stop now, I won’t be able to control myself much longer.”

“Oh.” I kissed his nose and then his mouth once again.

“You’re going to be the death of me, Tatiana.” He grinned against my lips.

“Let’s hope not. I rather like you alive, my Prince.”

“Eh hem.” A strong voice sounded from the entryway, and I was dropped unceremoniously to the floor, thankfully landing on my feet—with the help of my wings as they decided to make an appearance.

“Father.” Edan turned, and I nearly died on the spot.

“Your Majesty.” I curtseyed, my face no doubt three shades of red as I felt the heat creep up my cheeks.

Holy shit.

We’d been caught by the King of Wisteria in a very compromising position.

This was so freaking embarrassing…
