Nothing but silence answered her, except the king’s muffled chuckle.
The fairies standing within the gathering stared at the ground, not one of them making a move or attempting to utter a word. I was shocked.
“This was a waste of our time.” Rosemary pinned me with her gaze. “Tatiana, I do apologize. You have been found not guilty of using your wand to entice the prince. Not guilty of using your wand for ill-gotten gain, and not guilty of anything with malicious intent.” She bowed her head toward the king. “This trial is now adjourned.” And with a wave of her wand, she and the entire council disappeared.

In my shocked stupor, all sound was completely muffled by the ringing in my ears. I felt strong arms wrap around me and pull me close. Edan. My love. I leaned my head against his chest, and he kissed my hair. “The goddess always provides, and truth will always prevail. I’m proud of you, my love.”
I turned to him, our bodies now so close, and if not for the damn corset squeezing the life out of me, I would have been able to feel the muscles of his chest. “I love you, Edan.”
“I love you.” He kissed me in front of all of Fairy and Wisteria. It was then that my hearing returned to normal, and I could hear gasps, cheers, and then… a familiar voice.
No.
I stepped from Edan’s embrace to see Beatrice—my mother—and Princess Hadley standing mere feet away.
“This isn’t over, Tatiana.” Hadley sneered. “I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but a fairy shall not marry what was promised to me. The prince is mine.”
My mother didn’t spare me a glance as the pair then disappeared in a purple mist of magic.
“Mom…”
