Edan came to my side. “Tatiana, are you all right?” He kissed my forehead, my cheek, and then my lips. “We’ll do whatever we must to circumvent her bloody curse, of this, I promise you.”
I stared into his loving gaze, and I knew exactly what I had to do. “Yes, Edan, we will.”
The king stood in shock, and I couldn’t blame him, however, the decision was now mine to make.
I raised my wand before the still-gathered assembly. “I no longer need this.” I snapped it in half, and when I did, a blue cloud of magic and golden fairy dust settled upon everyone gathered.
Renora shouted, but it was too late. “Oh, Tatiana, what have you done?”
“What I should have done a long time ago.” I tossed my broken wand to the ground. “Now, all those my wand has granted wishes for will see the glamour that was set upon them. Their true hearts will be revealed and free will returned.”
As I gazed around, I could see those I’d wanded shaking themselves and glancing toward the wish-casters. Some were all right, while others were angry.
It seemed there were now two sides: Team Magic and Team Free Will.
I stepped forward. “You see? This is what a fairy’s wand does. It takes away free will, removes that of your true heart, making you no more than a husk of your former selves. Now I understand why my mother, however evil she may be, broke her wand. I no longer need it. Let her try and curse our union.” Edan grabbed my hand and lifted it in the air. “True love surpasses any sort of magic. I am not afraid.”
Griselda attempted to take center stage and sneered. “Take a good look around. It is as I’ve said all along: she is no different than her mother.”
I rolled my eyes. “Oh, shut the hell up.” With that, I turned on my heel, Edan, the king, and Renora following me inside the castle.
Let my mother try.
I now had no wand to cast that wish. However, the goddess had allowed me to keep my wings.
Beatrice didn’t know of the fairy I’d become, but she’d soon find out.
