Epilogue

After a whirlwind of “I do’s,”we’d celebrated through the night with our close friends and family. I’d heard my mother’s laughter, and it warmed me to know that she, too, could finally be free. Edan and I danced the night away, the first of many balls to celebrate.

“There are a lot of new things to revel in, my wife.” Edan’s voice was filled with pride and love, so much love. We lay tangled up in satin sheets, my head resting against his sculpted chest.

Edan made good on his promise, and I discovered the secret of grapefruits. In our afterglow, panting, I could only chuckle. I leaned forward and kissed him again.

Our lips melted against each other, as he slowly deepened the kiss. “Mmm, grapefruit is now my favorite. I’ll ensure this succulent fruit is always on hand for our explorations.”

“You believe yourself to be so smart? Is that what we are calling it now?” I giggle-snorted. I enjoyed all that this journey with him would bring our way, and nestled in the comfort of his embrace, it was certain to be exquisite.

“I’ll call it whatever you wish as long as we can do it again,” he conceded, and again that twinkle lit up his eyes. His fingers found my waist and began their tickling.

I wiggled and shrieked. “Don’t you need another twenty minutes or something?”

“I fear that Renora gave you a talk about birds, bees, and butterflies tonight, correct?”

“No, my mother did.” I released a satisfied sigh and grinned. “I never thought following my heart would lead me to you.” I cupped his cheek in my hand, which he then kissed.

Together, we laughed at what was indeed to come. When we’d finished our dinner and dancing, King Frederick and Mother had moved to the balcony to talk, and all of the good will and wishes had been restored.

“I’m glad Princess Hadley hired the guild. I would have spent even more time bumbling around trying to find the nerve to ask you to be mine. I’ve loved you forever, and I can’t imagine not spending my life with you.”

“And I you, my soon-to-be King.”

He threw back the covers, and strutted naked across the room where the fruit basket and refreshments waited. “What do you think we should try next? For some reason, we’ve been sent asparagus, basil, almonds, and strawberries, alongside the grapefruits of course.”

“All natural aphrodisiacs.”

Edan grabbed a handful of strawberries, and I enjoyed the view of him. “Well, we have all night.”

“No, we have forever, my love.”

“Yes, Tatianna, I love you as long as the day.”

“And as hot as the nights.” Taking the strawberry between my lips, I pulled him under the sheets.

“Woot! Carpe Noctem,” he hooted.

He’d captured this fairy’s heart, and because of true love, I was now free to love him with my mind, body, and soul, too. “Seize the night, indeed.”

And he did.
