Chapter4

“Ugh, this is not working.”Bailey tried to zip the dress up her back again, and again it stopped two inches from the top. She pulled out her phone to check the time and cursed again.

Ada and Pam would both be at dinner already with Brooklyn, Emma, and Lillian. She could change dresses, but that seemed like a waste, especially since she’d already accessorized to match this dress.

“Dammit.” She stepped out of her room and saw that Simon’s door was open and he was sitting on the edge of the bed, staring out the window. “Hey, Simon?”

He turned to her, and his eyes widened. Good, at least that means the dress looks nice. “Yes?”

“Can you please help me with this dress? I can’t get the stupid zipper up the rest of the way, and everyone is already at dinner. Basically, you’re my only hope.”

He nodded, and when he got closer, the intensity of his look gave her chills. She turned around and lifted the hair off the back of her neck. She could have sworn she heard a low growl but convinced herself she must’ve imagined it.

After a moment, his fingers brushed against her skin as he raised the zipper the rest of the way and stepped back.

“There you go.”

“Thanks, Simon.” She turned and smiled. “You alright?”

“Yes, why?”

“You just look a little, I don’t know, sad?”

Simon smiled. “It’s just a change.”

“I bet. Want to have a drink? I have some time before I need to leave and could use something to calm my nerves.”

“Aren’t you driving?”

“Uber.”

Simon nodded, “I’d love to have one then.”

“Awesome. What do you like?”

“What do you have?”

“We have whiskey, vodka, and red wine.”

“I’ll take some whiskey.”

“Good choice.” She pulled a bottle out and grabbed two glasses from the cupboard. After pouring a few fingers into each, she handed him his and held up her own. “To awesome new roommates and good dates.”

“To fresh starts.”

They drank the whiskey down, and Bailey rinsed out her glass. “Here’s hoping tonight goes well.”

“Is this your first date with whoever it is you’re going out with?”

She nodded, “My client’s son. I met him earlier today.”

“Well, he’s going to lose his ability to speak. You look amazing.”

“Aww, thanks, Simon.”

“Anytime.”

“So do you know what you want to do yet? For work?”
