“We can try. Livewire tonight?”

“See you there. I’m just leaving work, so I’ll be sleeping until about five.”

“Have sweet dreams.”

“You too, and perhaps you can become a jockey.”

“What?” And then it clicked. “Oh my gosh, Brooklyn. I am not mounting anyone today.”

“You never know.”

“Bye, bitch.”

“Bye, skank.”

Bailey ended the call and stared up at the ceiling, wondering just what the hell she was supposed to do with herself for the next two hours.

Relaxed and gratefulthat she’d managed to avoid Simon all morning, Bailey parked in front of Gertrude’s house. The storage company had delivered the crate she’d asked for, and it wasn’t supposed to be a hot day. Perfect for what they had to get done.

“Hey, Bailey.”

“Morning, Adam!” She greeted Lillian’s fiancé with a smile. “Brought you this.” She handed him a coffee, and he took it gratefully.

“Thanks.”

“Of course.”

“Who else did you rope into helping today?”

Before she could answer, a loud rumble sounded, and she turned to see a Harley pulling into the parking lot. Clad in dark jeans, boots, and a black t-shirt, Simon climbed off and walked over to them.

“Do you not believe in a helmet?” Bailey asked him.

He shrugged. “Wasn’t a far drive.”

“Man, that’s a nice bike,” Adam commented. “That’s mine.” He gestured to the other Harley sitting in Gertrude’s driveway.

“Are you guys going to compare sizes all day?” Bailey asked with a laugh.

“I mean, probably.” Adam grinned. “I’m going to get the doors opened on that container.”

When he was out of earshot, Simon shoved his hands into his pockets. “Feel like talking about this morning?”

“What’s there to talk about?”

“Listen, Bailey-”

Before he could finish his sentence, the front door opened, and Brett stepped onto the porch, carrying a large vase of roses. “Bailey! So good to see you.”

“Hey, Brett.” Bailey faked a smile. Talk about complications. At least she wouldn’t have to see this one once her job was done.

“These are for you.” He handed them to her and then looked from Simon back to her. “I’m Brett.” He held out his hand.

“Simon.” The men shook hands, and Brett turned his attention back to her.

“I trust everything was alright with your friend?”
