Chapter6
Three weeks passed easily, and Bailey was finally finished with the most difficult client she’d had to date.
Gertrude’s home looked beautiful, and the woman had been more than pleased with it. Although she was still seeing Brett, it was only once a week, and she was trying to find a way to break it off without hurting his feelings. Especially since he’d invited her out to his family’s beach house in Florida for the fourth of July.
She stepped into the diner where she met her friends every Sunday after Church and took her seat next to Emma and Lillian. Shortly after her arrival, Ada, Pam, and Brooklyn arrived.
“Every time I see you, you’re more pregnant,” Pam said to Emma with a laugh.
“That’s usually how it works,” she joked. “But seriously, I thought I would have more time before I started showing. I’m just past the first trimester, and I already can’t see my toes.”
“You still look adorable.” Bailey hugged her friend and then lifted the menu.
“How are things with Simon?” Emma wondered.
“He’s a great roommate. Clean, quiet, and doesn’t mind going grocery shopping with me.”
“That’s good.”
“How is he in the sack?” Brooklyn asked and had everyone at the table staring at Bailey.
“What? How the hell am I supposed to know?”
“I figured you would have given into your primal urges by now.”
“Primal urges?” Ada questioned.
“First off, no, I haven’t given in as you say. We’re roommates, and sleeping together is off the table. Second, I wouldn’t sleep with anyone and not tell you guys. And third, I’m seeing Brett.”
“Oh yes, Brett.” Brooklyn nodded. “I forgot all about him.”
Bailey shot her friend a glare. “Sure you did.”
Brooklyn shrugged but grinned.
Pam turned to Ada. “Kep get to the airport alright this morning?”
Ada nodded.
“When’s he coming back?” Emma wondered.
“He’ll be back in a month or so. Depends on if he gets hung up doing something else while he’s in London.”
Or someone else, Bailey thought to herself. Kep was a grade-A asshole, and she hoped he never came back.
“With Snooty Trudy’s job done, what’s next on your list?” Lillian wondered, using the girls’ nickname for Gertrude.
Bailey laughed. “I’ve been sleeping more than usual, but other than that, nothing. I’ve got a couple meetings set for next week but nothing concrete just yet.”
“How are things with Brett?” Brooklyn asked and put her hands up at Bailey’s glare. “I’m asking for real this time.”
“They’re alright, I guess. I don’t know.”
“What do you mean?”
“He’s handsome and definitely a lot nicer than I thought after our first date, but there’s no connection there. I keep hoping one is going to show up, but I’ve got nothing. I actually think I’m going to have to end things tomorrow night.” Her phone rang. “Speaking of.” She held it up to show Brett’s name on the screen and excused herself to answer.
Ada turned to Brooklyn. “So, what did you do.”
