Bailey stuck her tongue out at Emma and stood to clear her plate. “I’m going to go lay outside in the sun and start on some hair of the dog.”

“Be right there with you in a few. I’m going for a liquid diet this morning.” Ada finally said.

Bailey headed outside and took off her wrap before settling on a lounge chair. A few moments after closing her eyes, the door opened.

“Feels good out here,” she said, thinking it was Ada.

“Hey.”

Bailey sat up at the sound of the male voice. “Hey, Simon.”

He ran a hand through his hair and took a seat on the chair next to hers. “Can we talk?”

“About?”

“Yesterday.”

“What about it?”

“Are we okay?”

“Why wouldn’t we be?”

“Bailey.”

She nodded. “We’re fine, Simon.”

“If you want to just be friends, I’m okay with that. I only pushed it because I think we would be great as something more, too.”

“I know you do, and it’s possible.”

“But?”

She sighed. “I don’t do long-term relationships, and we have a lot to lose if things go south.”

“You’ve been best friends with the same group of girls for the last fifteen years. That seems like a pretty long-term relationship to me.”

“That’s different.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t sleep with them.”

He nodded, but his jaw was hard. “I just wanted you to know that I’m here whether you change your mind or not.”

“Thanks.”

“Yeah.” Simon stood and walked back into the house without another word.
