Epilogue

One Month Later

Luke looked around his office. It had been three weeks since he and his team had officially moved in, and one month since he had gone on his first date with Monica. Since then, they had not only gone on their second and third dates, but he had managed to get her to sleep at his apartment nearly half the time, and the other half he was spending at hers. She had tried to tell him that, once they got back in the States, she would be busy with work, but he didn't let that deter him. Slowly she had come around to the fact that she needed to find the perfect work balance and he was helping her do so a little at a time.

Speaking of his little firecracker, he could hear her heels clicking down the hallway just seconds before her head popped into his office.

"Ryker mentioned I could find you here." She slipped inside and popped her hip against his desk. She was wearing her typical work attire: pencil skirt with a blouse and heels. Every now and then, she would switch it up for a tight-fighting dress. He could say her outfits no longer affected him, but that would be a lie. It took every ounce of control he had not to pull her over and lean her back against his desk while he took her.

"Here I am. What brings you by in the middle of the workday?" Not that he wasn't happy to see her, but going back to those little steps; Monica rarely took a day off and she certainly didn't leave work in the middle of the day. As much as he tried, she always turned him down with a flat no.

"Well, I had some good news that I wanted to share in person. Plus, I figured I was long overdue for an afternoon off."

The thousand-watt smile on her face practically screamed what her good news could be. There was only one thing she had been waiting to hear, and it was long overdue, but since he didn't want to spoil the surprise, he waited for her to tell him. He didn't have to wait long.

"Carmichael officially retires at the end of the month. I signed the last of the paperwork this morning. Carmichael Financial Advisors is officially mine!"

He could practically feel the excitement pouring off her. She deserved this and had worked hard for it. When he had met her friend Ash, she couldn't stop bragging about how much Monica deserved the opportunity. It was how he knew she would get it.

"I'm so happy for you, sweetheart." He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her body against his. "And just how would you like to celebrate?"

He liked the way her eyes twinkled at the mention of celebrating. He knew how he wanted to show her how proud he was, but this was about her. He figured he was in trouble when she leaned in closer.

"How soundproof are these rooms, because I've had a fantasy that I'd really like to have come true," she purred in his ear.

He was up and out of his seat, closing the door instantly. Her soft chuckle followed in his wake. While he loved the sound of it, he much preferred the way she moaned. And with any luck, that was exactly what he would be getting.

"How about you tell me all about this fantasy, and we test just how soundproof this place really is?" he growled.

And that was exactly how they spent Monica's first afternoon off in years.
