“Hey, there you are,” Avery’s soft voice said as she sauntered toward me.
The main living room had too many eyes. I motioned toward the kitchen, and she followed behind me, leaving the guests and her father. When I stepped into the empty room, she wrapped her arms around me and pressed her lips to mine.
She moaned as we broke apart. I kept her close to me and rested my forehead against hers.
“I needed that,” she said.
My cock ached and I wanted be deep inside of her, not at a party.
“You okay?” I asked her, as I caressed her face.
She looked stressed, and I tried to smooth out the stress lines.
She pulled in a deep breath. “Yeah, I guess I never expected anything to happen today, you know? But seeing my father in his vest just kind of hit me.”
I pulled her in tighter and held her close. “Don’t worry, babe. Everything will be okay.”
She nodded. “I know. You’ve got everything under control.”
I grinned at her. “When is this thing over?”
She rolled her eyes. “Soon, but first, we’re doing a small memorial for Leon.”
My woman was thoughtful as fuck. She’d invited Leon’s family to be here today as a way of including them just as they would have been had Leon lived. She told me one night while lying in bed that they were family, as he was, and just because he’d died, it didn’t mean that the family lost what they had. By being together, the memory of Leon would live on.
Until that conversation, I hadn’t realized how much Leon meant to her. She never let anyone in except those who were loyal. She was afraid of being abandoned just as her mom had done to her.
The fact that her mom caused a war made me angry, and I didn’t blame Vin for what he did.
When it came to Avery, Vin held his daughter on a pedestal.
Just as I did.
