Page 545 of One More Kiss

I tucked Maddie in,then leaned over the bed and kissed her forehead. “Good night.”

“Night.” She snuggled under the blankets, and I smiled as I turned on the nightlight and moved toward the door. “Hey mom?”

“Yeah, sweets?”

“I like Mick.”

My heart jumped a little. “Me, too.”

I turned off the light and closed the door before heading back toward the living room, a strange feeling in my chest. I’d never felt about a man the way I did about Mick—not even when I was with Maddie’s dad. Back then, I was young and thought I was in love. But it was nothing more than teenage hormones and alcohol.

Mick had been completely respectful, declining to do more than fool around a little bit even though he’d visited several times over the past couple of weeks. My skin felt like it was on fire, and I didn't know how much longer I could hold out. I wanted to take the next step. I wanted to find out if we were as compatible in bed as we were out of bed.

Mick’s gaze lifted to me as I stepped into the living room, and he smiled. “Is she asleep?”

“She will be in about ten minutes.”

Instead of moving to sit beside him as I normally would, I stepped between his legs. Mick’s head tipped slightly to one side as he watched me, and his hands moved to my hips as I straddled him and took a seat on his lap.

“Damn, woman.” His eyes closed briefly, and his fingers flexed on my hips. “You're going to be the death of me if you keep this up.”

I chuckled. “That's kind of the point.”

Sliding my hands over his shoulders, I dipped my head and kissed him. His fingers slid under the hem of my shirt, and his skin felt hot against my lower back as he caressed my skin in small circles. Over the past couple of weeks, we’d gotten very proficient at making out. But I wanted more. Mouth still fused with his, I skimmed my fingers down his torso and cupped him through his jeans.

Mick let out a strangled groan as he broke the kiss and grabbed my hand. “Babe...”

“Come on,” I said. “You know you want it.”

A strange expression crossed Mick’s face, and he shifted a little bit beneath me, looking uncomfortable.

My instincts immediately went on full alert. “What's wrong?” I whispered.

He swallowed hard, and his eyes darted away before meeting mine again. “There's something I need to tell you.”

Perched on his lap, I froze, every worst-case scenario ricocheting through my mind. Did he have an STD? Did he not want to be with me? Was there another woman? Oh, God.

The distress I felt must’ve been written all over my face, because he squeezed my fingers where he still held my hand in his. “It's nothing bad,” he assured me. “It just… It might change things.”

Steeling myself, I met his gaze head on. “Okay, shoot.”

“Obviously you know I went to jail when I was young.” I nodded a little at the rhetorical statement, and he continued. “I was fifteen when all that happened. I had a girlfriend at the time, but we’d… I never had a chance to… be with a woman.”

My mind went blank for a second as the information sank in. “You've never had sex?”

Mick looked distinctly uncomfortable. “I fooled around, but… Not all the way, no.”

I studied him. “Do you want to?”

He gave a little half laugh and moved my hand to the bulge pressing against the front of his jeans. “Isn't it obvious how much I want you?”

A smile curved my mouth. “I want you, too.”

His dark chocolate eyes held mine, so deep I swore I could drown in them. “It doesn't bother you?”

“Of course not.” I slid my fingers up his neck and through his hair. “Besides, you know I have no problem taking charge.”
