Vana and Lucky kept running, their hearts pounding in their chests. They could hear Rich's footsteps behind them, getting closer and closer.
Suddenly, they reached the edge of a muddy riverbed. There was a stranded truck on the other side, but the river was too deep and fast-flowing to cross.
"We're trapped," Vana said, her voice trembling.
Rich appeared on the other side of the river, a triumphant smile on his face.
"There's nowhere to run, Vana. You're coming with me," he said, starting to wade through the river.
"No!" Vana yelled, her heart pounding in her chest.
She had to do something. She couldn't let Rich catch her. She was terrified of what he would do to her.
Suddenly, she had an idea.
"Lucky, jump!" she yelled, pointing at the stranded truck.
Lucky looked at her, confused.
"Jump, Lucky! Trust me!" Vana said, her voice full of desperation.
Lucky hesitated for a moment, before finally leaping into the air. He just barely cleared the river, landing on the other side with a thud.
"Good boy!" Vana praised him, before turning to face Rich.
"You're never going to catch me, Rich. I'm done with you. Leave me alone!" she yelled, before turning and running in the opposite direction toward the front of the truck.
She didn't know where she was going, but she had to get away from Rich.
Vana drove the truck as fast as she could, her heart pounding in her chest. She had to get away from Rich.
She had to figure out a way to hide from the man she spent so long divorcing.
She drove for what felt like hours, until the front of the truck slammed into a hidden tree stump and she could no longer move any further. With the truck stopped, she looked around, her heart still racing but now for a different reason. She'd heard of this mountain before. Jagged Peaks. People that came up here didn't survive.
She shook those thoughts out of her head. She was safe. She was away from Rich.
But now she was stranded.
She looked at Lucky, who was panting next to her.
"We're safe, Lucky. We're away from Rich. But now how do we get out of here?" she said, her voice trembling.
She didn't know what to do. She was stranded in the middle of nowhere. She was all alone.
With no options and no way for her to communicate with anyone she shuts off the lights on the truck and hunkers down in the seat with her trusty Lucky cuddling up beside her.
