Even if I can’t remember us, even if I don’t know what happened in the past, I know we could have a future together. We’re connected in a way I’ve never felt with anyone else. Whatever it is that ties us together is an incredible force, and that just makes me want normalcy even more.

Sensing that I need to stop, Jenny tells my physical therapist that she’s going to take over. For the most part, Jenny doesn’t interfere with PT, she always pops in toward the end to relieve the therapist… and me.

“So, while you were preoccupied, I went to the nail salon down the street and grabbed a bunch of polish. I figured tonight we could have a girls’ night. Nails, take-out, chick flicks. I may have answered your phone after a Hannah Banana called three times in a row while you were in PT…”

“Hannah’s coming over?” I sigh. I know Jenny means well, but I’m not in the mood for people-ing today, and Hannah is… a lot. She’s bubbly and optimistic… and loud.

“Is that okay?” Jenny asks, chuckling nervously, pushing my wheelchair right behind me. “I just assumed you’d want to spend time with her. And I kind of invited myself... and Shauna too.”

“Yes, of course,” I tell her while she scoops her hands under my armpits, helping lead me back down into the wheelchair. “That sounds perfect, actually.”

“So, guys aren’t allowed at this girls’ night, I’m guessing…right?” Milo pipes in from the other side of the room.

“Nope.” Jenny shakes her head. “In fact, you should probably go shower because you’re going out. Did I forget to mention that? Hannah is being dropped off by Derek who is taking you to the driving range.”

“Well, aren’t you just a master manipulator?” Milo teases as he gives the bag in front of him one last punch. “I don’t know though…”

Every waking moment since we moved me in, he’s been my side. He deserves a night out. He more than deserves it, actually.

And who knows, time with the girls could be a good thing.

Maybe they can help me think of a way to thank him for everything he’s done for me.
