“We can do that. Is there anything else?” After last night, I don’t want to speak to him. The way he invaded my space, just to tell me he didn’t want me.

“You didn’t have to make up a boyfriend, you know.”

“What gives you the impression I made one up?”

“First of, you never mentioned one before. You also stay late for work a lot and I doubt a significant other would be okay with that. Last, I don’t think you are the cheating type.”

“I’m in an open relationship,” I lie. “Anything else you need?”

He inspects me for a moment, like he is waiting on my facial expression to give anything away. “No. That will be all.” He finally dismisses me, turning to the paperwork in front of him.

I suppress a growl and turn on my heel. I need to get out of here as soon as possible. I can’t wait for this project to be over, and Nicholas to go back to where he came from.

I don’t get far before I’m confronted in the hall by Naomi. It’s clear she was waiting for me to finish up. I guess my apology wasn’t enough.

“What did he want you to stay after for?” she asks, arms crossed over her chest, making her boobies even more in your face.

“Why does it concern you?” I respond, walking around her to get to the elevator.

“If you’re trying to move in on Nicholas, that would be a big mistake,” she growls, keeping pace with me.

I glare at her and continue on. This conversation is pointless. “Trust me, I want nothing to do with Mr. Brooks. He’s my employer and nothing more.”

“The way he stares at you doesn’t seem like he’s ‘just your employer’,” she says, using air-quotes.

I roll my eyes and press the button for the lift. The lights dim as the elevator moves up to our floor. My leg bounces in sync with the floors, as I will the elevator to get here faster.

“I have no control over what people do. But I’m here to do my work and get off this project. I don’t need complications in my life.”

My words aren’t settling into her thick brain. She leans over, getting into my face, and whispers, “He’s mine. If I find you anywhere near him, I’ll destroy you. I have a lot of connections in this city, and many of them will blacklist you in a moment.”

Before I can respond, she stomps off down the hall, ass wiggling as she passes the boardroom and strolls into her office. The elevator opens up before me and I get in, turning around before leaning on the back wall. The last thing I see is Nicholas staring at me from the doorway of the conference room.
