Oak
“Hey sleepy head.”Soft lips press against my shoulder.
I groan and turn on my back, then stretch my arms and upper body. “Morning,” I mumble, but don’t open my eyes.
We slept late last night after making love until the wee hours. I still feel the butterflies in my belly, the tingle in my ass, and the burn in my veins. I’ve lived some of my best days of my life here with him in this hotel suit.
The man knows how to make my body sing. Knows how to play with my body.
Another kiss lands on my lips this time. My lips curve up, my heart full to bursting. “What time is it?”
“It’s past nine.”
That means I got only five hours of sleep. Ugh. I bury my face in the pillow and groan. “That’s too early.”
“No, it’s not.” He chuckles and tugs at me. “Come on, wake up.”
When I don’t budge, the bastard tickles me. I laugh so hard, tears leak from my eyes and my belly aches. “S-stop. Okay, okay, I’m getting up. Please…”
His fingers finally still, and I take a few deep breaths and swipe my hand over my face. “That was mean.”
“Everything is fair in love and war.”
My heart stutters when I hear the L word coming out of his mouth. I open my eyes and my breath hitches. Dayum. Rowan is all dressed up and ready for the day. My gaze travels down his body. He’s wearing a three-piece navy blue suit, jaw shaven, hair slicked back. He looks every bit a business man right now.
Why is he dressed, though? “You look handsome in the suit. Going somewhere?”
“Remember, I told you a couple of days ago about a meeting I have today with my team and a new sponsor?”
Oh. “Yeah.”
“It’s today.”
It’s already Friday? Fuck. Time sure flew really quickly with him. And with that comes the realization that my time is ending with him as well. After today I won’t see him, and that hurts my soul.
He checks his time once more. “I have to leave now. I ordered breakfast for you.”
“Thank you.” I force a smile. I don’t want him to know I’m breaking inside.
He pecks my lips and climbs down from the bed. “I’ll see you in a few hours. Wish me luck.”
“You don’t need luck, but still… good luck. I hope you land this deal.”
A megawatt smile transforms his entire face. “Thank you.” He waves and turns away.
And I watch him as he walks toward the door, my heart and spirit in tatters.
With a heavy sigh, I fall back, my head swallowed by the massive pillow.
My lips quiver, heart heavy with sadness. Today I will shatter into a million pieces like a shooting star when it’s time for me to say goodbye.
What was I thinking, saying yes to spending seven nights with him? I should have known I would not come out of this adventure intact. Should have known my heart would not belong to me, but to someone else at the end of this glorious journey.
* * *
I should behappy I got to spend seven glorious nights and six days with Rowan, sizzling with passion and fire, leaving ashes in our wake.
I should be happy I got to share something meaningful with him for just a few days, where other people search for it their entire lives.
