See? I was a prick.
“I’m not supposed to disclose information about other group participants, Mr. Soronen, but…no. The last time I saw her was the last time I saw you.”
My heart fell to my stomach. Awesome. She was probably doing the exact same thing I was. Hiding in the dark. No lifeline. Nothing.
I hung up without another word and grabbed the prescription bottle on the nightstand, but it was empty. I threw it across the room, where it fell to the floor.
I screamed into my empty room, frustrated, knowing I’d screwed up but had no clue how to fix things.

I tookback the shot Luca had just handed me and slammed the glass back onto our high-top table. The pounding of the bass from the speakers washed over me as the liquor helped to mask my issues for the time being. I wasn’t a fan of dance music, but it was helping for the moment. We’d been at The Edge for less than an hour and were on our third shot of the night, but we’d drunk a few before we came.
We’d been hanging out—the first time since our blow-up—having a few drinks when they suggested we head to the club. It had sounded like a good idea at the time since I’d had a few beers and was feeling pretty buzzed. Now I was past buzzed and on my way to loaded.
“Look.” Nate slurred his words as he put his arm around me. “I don’t know what the fuck is going on with you, but this—” he motioned around us “—is the answer. Right, Luca?”
Luca nodded. He was drunk, too. We all were. “Yep. Whiskey. Answer.”
Nate laughed. “See? We’re looking out for you. Even if you’re being a moody little bitch.”
I wanted to pound him for his comment, but honestly, I would call him the same if the tables were turned. However, they also had zero clue what my mental state was. I’d never told them, so how could they. I’d had enough to drink not to care enough to let it get to me, though.
The waitress, a cute brunette, bounced over to us. “Here you go, boys.” She leaned over, pressing her tits into my shoulder as she set her tray onto our table.
We all grabbed a glass. She didn’t make a move to leave. She stood there with her eyes locked on me. “You certainly can hold your liquor, can’t you?”
She ran a finger down my chest in a manner that I was sure she thought was sexy. I’d never been into women who threw themselves at men so blatantly. It wasn’t a turn-on.
The guys laughed, and a smirk tugged at my lips. I thought about it for a moment. I’d never had a fling, but maybe it would be a good distraction.
I picked up my shot, wondering if a couple more would help me to muster up enough courage to do it.
“Daniel?” The sound of Tate’s voice had me whipping around so fast that I spilled whiskey all over my shoes.
She was standing to my right, and she was with that snarky friend of hers. Violet? Veronica?
“Victoria, let’s just go. I don’t want to be here anymore.”
Victoria.That was it.
Nate stepped up beside me. “Danny, aren’t you going to introduce us?”
Fuck.
I looked right at them. Tate looked like she was holding her breath. Victoria looked like she was about to blow her top.
Victoria’s hand went to her hip. “Well? Who are we, Danny? Hmm? Oh, let me guess—”
“Vee,” Tate cut in.
My heart was literally bleeding.
Victoria stepped forward. “No, Tate. See? He hasn’t even told his buddies who you are. I told you this was the type of guy he was. Fuck you and chuck you. He used you.”
Everyone was staring at me. And I literally had no idea what to say.
“Daniel?” Tate’s eyes were pleading with me to prove her wrong.
