Caught

Walkingthrough crowds of people always gets me amped up. The little club that we own is packed with enough people to give us a selection of food, enough that no one would notice if someone goes missing for a while. A little compulsion, and a lot of being careful, makes this the ideal hunting ground.

I wander through the dance floor looking for that perfect someone. The one that I will almost drain tonight. Blood is my weakness, and I’m its servant. It has control over me like no other. My nostrils flare at the scents of sweat and perfume. Nothing has caught my attention yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

“Gina, get me a beer, please,” I call out to the bartender over the noise of the music. She’s a vampire, but one that doesn’t need to be constantly sated. One that can just take a little and be done. I’m envious of her.

“Sure thing, boss,” she replies, going under the bar to get my preferred stout. When she bends over, a pang of lust runs through my system. Blood isn’t the only thing that we need to survive. To fend off the bloodlust, we use sex as a filler. Whether it be with males or females, it doesn’t matter. Our need can never be quenched.

Taking a swig of my beer, I scan the crowd once more. It’s still early, only around 8:30 pm, so there isn’t much to choose from. In a few hours there will be enough humans here crowding the place, from wall to wall, and I’ll find that perfect someone.

The door to the coat room opens up on the top level, and two females walk in. One with crimson hair the color of the ripened apples, and the other with hair dark as night. The redhead grabs my attention right away. She’s petite, smaller than the other girl, and her skin is so fair, it almost glows under the dim light.

They walk down the steps toward the bar and past the fan at the side of the stairs. Her scent hits me, and my knees buckle. It smells like salvation.

“Draven!Theron! Where the fuck are you?” I scream so loud, the glass in the office’s shake. I can’t believe she’s here. The one we’ve been looking for since we were cursed.

Both come out of the sitting room at the far end of the hall. Two females run out after them, not completely clothed. They both give me expressions of curiosity, as I’m not usually the one who makes a fuss. That’s Theron’s job.

“She’s here. The Curse Breaker is here!” I yell, smiling from ear to ear, not caring if they’re still mostly undressed. I run up and grab them both, hugging them. Tears of joy stream down my face as I look at them. They’re shocked, just as I am. This is something we’ve waited for so long. After all this time, we had lost hope.

“Are you joking?” Theron says, looking towards the door that leads out into the hall.

“I’m not. As soon as you step onto the dance floor, you’ll smell her too. It’s unmistakable. She’s truly here,” I reply.

Both men push past me, and I ride on their coattails. My body is pulsing with so much excitement, I feel like I could fly.

As soon as the door opens, they stand still, scanning the crowd for what I know will be the end of this existence. Both take a long inhale of air in the room, and then let out a sigh of relief. They can scent her as well.

“We need to play this safe. There’s no room for error,” Draven says. He’s the stable one in this group. He’s the one that’s always pulled us from the brink.

“Agreed. Maybe we should wait till she leaves? Take her where it’s less crowded?” I suggest, looking at the two for confirmation.

“We can track her after she leaves the club. It’s probably best if we change her in her own home, or take her to ours,” Theron replies.

It’s odd to know that she’s so close and yet I can’t touch her. She’s meant for us and doesn’t even know it.

We wait for the night to wind down, but we never take our eyes off of her. She’s gorgeous in the way she moves. Something I’ve never seen before in a human. Her blood sings to me, and I want her so badly, it’s taking all of me not to reach out and grab her right now.

The night air pulses against my skin. I’m so sweaty from the club that the cool autumn air feels amazing on my bare arms and legs. It was worth it, coming out tonight and hanging out with Megan. She’s a great friend. I smile at her as she gets into her cab.

“Call me when you get home,” she says. “And don’t forget Dess. I want to make sure you’re okay.”

“I will. Thanks for tonight. I had fun.”

“It was good to see you let loose. You were so relaxed.”

I sigh, remembering the way the music felt, sliding along my skin, taking me away from all my nightmares.

I watch the cab pull away. I should hail my own, but the night air feels too good to be cramped inside a car. My house is a short walk away, and I want to hold on to this feeling as much as possible.
