I growled loudly and tried to get it back from him but he was too fast.
“Oh shit!” he froze as I snatched the letter from him. “She dumped your ass in a letter?”
Thomas shoved him.
“Seriously?” Clay asked.
“Sounds like you need a beer,” James suggested.
He tossed one to me, hitting me in the chest as it fell to the ground with a pop before spraying in all directions.
“What the hell, Wyatt?” James cursed as they all jumped out of the way.
“Forget her. She was never good enough for you,” Emmett said.
“Shut up!”
I could feel anger coursing through me like never before. It was almost as if I were watching it all through a filter that didn’t seem quite real.
A roar ripped through me. I’d been pretty on edge and growly ever since Ashley left, but this was different.
“Shit! Get back,” I heard Thomas yell, but my eyes were set on Emmett. “Emmett, get away from him.”
I watched as my best friend shifted into a large gray wolf. Thomas’s wolf had been impressive since they day it surfaced. As our future Alpha he was big and stronger than nearly everyone in the Pack despite still mostly being a pup.
My attention shifted from a retreating Emmett who was backing slowly away from me with his hands up, to the wolf.
I cocked my head to the side as Thomas’s wolf sat back and howled as if he were calling to me in some primitive way.
One minute I was staring curiously almost entranced, and the next I looked around noting I’d shrunk. The guys around me were staring down at me.
Had I passed out?
I was quite confused until I looked down and saw furry paws where my legs had just been.
I stumbled backwards and tripped unable to fully control this new form.
I was a wolf.
In the blink of an eye it had happened.
This was nothing like I had been prepared for. It had been smooth and painless for sure. I could now see the clothes I’d been wearing shredded in pieces on the ground around me.
I tried to purposely walk towards Thomas, but I felt a little disoriented and continued to stumble.
“Takes a little getting used to,” Clay admitted.
“You did it buddy,” Austin cheered.
“Way to go, Wyatt,” Emmett said from several feet away.
I was too surprised by the sudden insurgence of my wolf to hold on to the anger I’d felt towards him only a few minutes earlier.
Thomas nodded his head towards the open field to signal me to follow him.
With each shaky step it became easier until the two of us were running through the field.
I had been the last of us to shift, so the others quickly joined us as we ran and jumped across the range. It was the most exhilarating thing I’d ever experienced in my entire life. Even sex couldn’t compare to this.
