“As a tagalong to a bunch of guys swearing off women? No thanks. How about I just do my thing and you do yours?”

“And break a promise to my mother? Are you insane? Nope. Not happening, come on, we can unpack later. Let me show you around my territory.”

“Your territory? How would your Alpha feel about you saying that?”

Austin shrugged easily. “He loves me like a son.”

I snorted. “Sure he does.”

“Are you calling me a liar?”

“More like an over-exaggerator.”

“You wound me Kitty Kate. Come on.”

I rolled my eyes at the childhood nickname.

“Fine, but then you’re going to help me unpack.”

“Deal.”

I followed Austin out to his truck, and he drove us straight to the Alpha house.

I groaned. “I didn’t even think about checking in with your Alpha. I’ve not spent much time outside of Longhorn.”

“Oh, right. I was just picking up Thomas, but I guess we should swing in and see the Alpha. Zach’s cool. You’ll like him.”

“Who’s Thomas?”

“His son and future Alpha heir.”

“Oh. Why are we picking him up?”

“Because he’s like a brother to me, one of my best friends, and part of the six pack.”

I laughed. “The six pack?”

“Hell ya. That’s me and my five closest friends.”

“Of course it is.” I rolled my eyes.

“I mean I could show you how we earned the title, but even before that people called us that. We’ve been tight since diapers.”

I couldn’t help but be a little jealous of that. I’d never had a group of friends I was that close with. It wasn’t that I didn’t have friends, just no one that I was close enough to share the ups and downs of life with. If I had, maybe the last few years wouldn’t have been quite so hard.

“Well, come on. The others are waiting.”

A tall handsome boy was walking out of the house as we moved towards it.

“Hey, let’s go,” he said. I assumed this must be Thomas.

“Is your dad in? Wanted to introduce Kate to him quickly.”

“Oh, sure. Hi, I’m Thomas.”

“Kate.”

“Did you just get in?”
