I nodded.
“Cool.”
He escorted us inside and down the hall unannounced. He knocked on a door and then opened it without permission.
My eyes widened in surprised.
“Dad, you got a minute? Austin’s cousin Kate just got into the territory and wanted to check in.”
“Well, come on in,” a gruff voice said.
I started to get nervous. I wasn’t prepared to meet the Collier Alpha.
When Austin pushed me through the door, I was surprised to be greeted with a smiling face and open arms.
Zach Collier hugged me.
“Hi,” I squeaked out.
“Hi Kate. It’s very nice to meet you. Your aunt and uncle speak highly of you. They did let me know of your situation and I’ve spoken to Sawyer about it. I hope that’s okay.”
“You talked to my Alpha about me?”
“Of course. I try to be accommodating to new wolves, but I also have to protect my Pack.”
“From me, sir?”
He laughed easily. “Well, no, but I had to make sure of that first, didn’t I?”
I shrugged. “I guess so.”
“Austin, Thomas, you boys show Kate around and help her feel welcome here.”
“That’s the plan dad.”
“Okay then, well I won’t hold you up. Kate, it was lovely to meet you.”
“Thanks,” I muttered as Austin guided me away and back to his truck.
“Relax Kate. I get he’s Alpha and all, but he’s one of the good ones,” Thomas said proudly.
“I’ll take your word on that. So where are we going exactly?”
“To the barn,” Thomas said. “That’s still the plan, right?” he asked Austin.
“Yup. They’re meeting us there and we’ll go for a ride.”
“Ride what?”
“A horse,” Thomas informed me. “You’re from Texas so we assumed you ride. Do you?”
“Oh, um, sure. I’ve been horseback riding before.” And I hated it, but I didn’t mention that part. Wolves were not meant to ride other creatures. It was absurd. But I grinned and gave a thumbs up. “Sounds like fun.”
