Please don’t.
Kaden’s gun is held straight in front of him as he speaks: “You’re going to let us walk the fuck out of here or we’re going to shoot the girl.”
Please don’t.
Shit, he’s seen their faces now. They really have to either leave town … or something. Too many people know, it’s not like they can take Pierce hostage.
“I have men surrounding the building downstairs, if you hand me the girl, I’ll call them off,” Pierce states as the entire group freezes and dread slithers down my spine.
“Why?” River demands and my throat dries. He isn’t going to kill me. He’s going to hand me over to Pierce.
“She is of certain interest to the FBI.” He spits the lie out and River looks at Royce. I think that’s when my fight or flight response hits and I try to move back as Blaine catches me, his arms not feeling very comforting right now. All my attempts to move are cut off but panic strikes me hard making my pulse flutter and my chest constrict. River looks at me confused and then it turns into something else, his eyes taking notice of my expression.
“Absolutely not,” Royce states calmly.
“Why?” Pierce bites out. “The FBI can overlook a few bank robberies as long as they stop. Her though? We need her.”
“Fuck you.” I growl as it slips past my lips.Liar. The FBI doesn’t fucking care about me. All of them look back at me, well except Royce, that’s when Pierce moves so goddamn fast that I only have a moment to shout ‘watch out.’
Pierce is on Royce in an instant, attempting to break through and I feel bad about this, but I nudge my elbow back, getting free from Blaine’s hold and grabbing the gun on the floor. The one that Pierce is now looking for.
I pick it up, my hands shaking as I point it at Pierce, his eyes amused as he aims Royce’s gun to the man underneath him. Kaden looks a bit frozen, his gun pointed at Pierce’s head but it won’t do a damn bit of good considering that there are three guns in this room and the closest one to killing someone is in Pierce’s hand.
Pierce chuckles softly. “Put that down, Sloane.” I swallow at hearing my name on his lips. I move closer and he smashes the gun right against Royce’s temple.
I whisper, “Let him go, I’ll go with you.” I can’t let Royce die for me. I’m willing to do a lot to stay away from Pierce, but not that.
“Absolutely fucking not,” Kaden snarls.
I ignore him and step closer. Pierce presses a foot down on Royce’s chest, keeping the gun down, as he stands. Kaden’s eyes are tracking his every movement for an opening. I place my gun down and step forward, his eyes following me and I grunt as he yanks me forward, stepping away from the four of them. I shiver in his arms as I watch Royce stand up with the gun in his hand now, and a look I don’t really understand in his eyes. I realize then that River is gone and I wish I could tell you that it didn’t hurt just a bit.
Pierce is saying some stupid shit with his gun pressed against my head as we walk backwards toward the elevator. Once I’m through those doors, it’s over. I grunt as he tightens his hold on me but all at once, the man behind me becomes dead weight and Pierce pulls me down to the floor with him, his gun falling next to him. I feel a shudder travel through him and I see bright red blood coming from his nose.
What the—
“Come on, kitten.” River grunts pulling me out from under my ex-fiancé’s unconscious form and I admit that I totally wrap my legs around his hips, looking down at Pierce.
“We need to leave now.” Royce growls and the five of us head toward the elevator, Kaden’s gun still out as Blaine grabs three black bags from the front hallway. Royce stands next to River and I, adrenaline still coursing through me as I grip tightly onto the man that just fucking saved me from the shit I’ve been running from for the last six months. I still think he’s a jerk but I’m thankful.
My only question, what the hell do we do now?
