He stood and held his hand out to her, “I have your word?” he said. Cat rolled her eyes and took his offered hand.

“Yeah sure,” she said. “So dramatic, Repo,” she chided.

“Says the woman who tried to sneak out of my apartment in the middle of the night,” he reminded. He was never going to let her live that down.

“I have a job in town tomorrow and you’ll come with me,” he ordered. “Rest up today, sleep as late as you’d like but we leave tomorrow morning at six.”

“Six in the morning?” she squeaked.

“Yep,” he said.

“But, I promised you that I wouldn’t run. Why can’t I just stay here?” she questioned.

“Because I don’t trust you, Cat. I appreciate you saying you won’t run but I will be keeping a close eye on you. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone on this stakeout and I’m taking you with me.”

“A stakeout—like we’ll be watching a bad guy and he won’t know it?” she asked.

“No,” he said, taking her empty plate from in front of her. “I’ll be watching a bad guy and you’ll be in the car with me. You stay out of my way Cat and we’ll get along just fine.”

“Which leads me back to my last question—why can’t I just stay here?” Repo shook his head at her and smiled.

“Because I said so,” he simply said. “I’m getting some more shut-eye. Turn off the lights when you go back to bed,” he ordered. Cat slumped into her chair and crossed her arms over her chest. She was pouting but she didn’t give a fuck. Repo knew how to push all her buttons and it was starting to get old.

“Night,” he said back over his shoulder. He didn’t wait for her to reply, knowing that she wouldn’t be giving him one. Yeah—he was testing her last nerve and God help her, he seemed to be enjoying every minute of it.
