I know why, but I don’t bother explaining to him that my pre-heat is starting. There are only days until my heat begins, and with each one that passes, my scent will grow stronger.

“I have to go,” I say quickly, jumping to my feet and running away.

Lucas mumbles something to Marco, but I don’t stick around to find out what. I need a cold shower, and as much as I hate to admit it, that fucking vibrator my mom sent.

ChapterTwenty-Five

REAGAN

The Knot Master is my new best friend. It’s definitely not the same as having an alpha, but it took away some of the edge I was feeling after my workout with Lucas and Marco. I may have spent an hour in the shower, figuring out exactly how to use it and earning myself a few orgasms in the process. I spend the rest of the morning and afternoon lying around, reading a different alien book I swiped from the library. At six-thirty, someone knocks on my door.

“Reagan, dinner is ready.”

“What’d you make?” I ask Cory, inserting my bookmark into the book and climbing off the bed.

“Tonight, it’s chicken alfredo.”

“You sure know your way to a woman’s heart,” I mumble, opening the door.

“Well, I take a lot of pride—” He pauses and inhales deeply, a soft rumble building in his chest.

Oh right. My room probably reeks of my orgasms. I awkwardly shut the door and tug him away, laughing nervously and hoping he doesn’t go all alphagive me the sexon me.

“Did you make breadsticks?” I ask, letting go of his arm and holding on to the stair railing instead.

“Huh?” His face lines with confusion for a second then the omega scent haze lifts. “Oh, yeah, I made breadsticks.”

“Wow, homemade?”

We reach the landing, and he glances over his shoulder and toward my room.

“No. The frozen kind, but I brush them with butter and garlic.” He frowns. “Why did it smell—”

“Please don’t ask me that.” I make a face, cringing away from the question.

“I was just wondering. Lucas and Marco have been busy and…” He trails off, face turning red when he realizes why my scent alone was all over the place.

“Yeah, so this is weird.” I click my tongue. “Sometimes a woman has needs. Can we go eat? I really don’t want to explain what masturbation is to you.”

He chokes on his own spit then barks out a laugh. “I know what masturbation is.”

“Oh good. Then we can go eat.” I grin at him and spin on my heel, hurrying away from him and that god-awful conversation.

Next time, I’ll open a window.

Marco and Lucas are already at the table, failing to hide their smiles. Marco is at least trying to withhold his laughter, but his shoulders are trembling so hard he looks like he might break. I sigh and pull out my chair, plopping down and glaring at him.

“Eavesdropping on private conversations about masturbation is rude.”

He cracks, a megawatt grin splitting his face, and the loudest laugh I’ve ever heard pours through the room. Lucas releases a dark chuckle more at Marco than the conversation they both overheard. Cory snickers and sits down, scrubbing his hands over his face.

“I thought living platonically with an omega would be easier than this.”

“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.” I fill my wine glass with the bottle of chardonnay on the table. “Almost as dumb as me thinking I could live platonically with alphas.”

“We’ve probably made a horrible decision.” Lucas grimaces. “It’s kind of fun though, don’t you think?”

“Fun and terrifying. I’m still not sure I trust you guys to respect my wishes when my heat comes. I don’t want mates.”
