“I got two.” Cory gives him a look. “Should I get another?”

“No. Let’s see how those work first. She’s going to be a handful,” Marco says, face lining with concern. “Are you sure we can handle it?”

“We have to,” I say with a shrug. “You saw the way Melvin looked at her. If we let her go, it’s only a matter of time before he gets ahold of her.”

“If we keep her, we’re going to regret it.”

“Wow, you sure know how to make a woman feel special,” Reagan says, scowling at Marco who blushes under her anger. “Don’t worry. I’ll watch a few online videos and soon enough you’ll have a maid worth keeping.” She swipes a phone charger off the coffee table next to the couch then stomps back to her room.

“See?” Marco hisses the question. “I don’t want her to be mad. This is dangerous. We agreed we wouldn’t take another omega, and she’s going to make us all break that pact.”

“Stop being so weak. Control yourself and everything will be fine.” I grind my jaw and look away from him.

“Rich words coming from the alpha who practically dragged us to the auctions.” His words bite and sink into my skin, stinging with nothing but truth.

I’m barely in control of myself as it is, and I suspect the longer we’re around Reagan, the worse it’ll get.

ChapterFour

REAGAN

After Cory sets my suitcases in the back, Marco drives us out of the city. Lucas cranks up the music again, which is probably for the best because my stomach is in knots. I’m nervous and scared. I’ve been claimed by a pack, and my job is to clean up after them. It wouldn’t be so bad if it were just Marco and Cory, but Lucas is kind of a dick. A hot asshole. But at the end of the day, all assholes stink.

We head toward the stretch of wine fields in Apan Valley, about thirty minutes outside of Dolin. The sun has set, but the vineyards are lit up by strings of lights leading up to the main buildings. A car in front of us turns toward the entrance of the vineyard we’re passing.

“Can we at least get some wine?” I ask, letting out a heavy sigh. This is the worst day ever. A solid bottle of pinot noir is in order.

“I’m tired,” Lucas says.

I snort. “You’re tired? Jesus. Sorry, I didn’t realize buying omegas was so exhausting.” I shake my head and lean forward, patting his arm. “Do you need a nap?”

Lucas turns and puts his arm on the passenger seat, glaring at me.

The intensity of his scowl makes me recoil.

At some point, you’re going to have to admit you’re the problem, Reagan.

Shut up,I grumble to myself inside of my head. I realize this whole hearing voices in my head isn’t normal, but neither is being able to roll your tongue into the shape of a hotdog bun. My tongue is useless in that regard, so I’d say I’m doing pretty good, you know, aside from the wholebeing sold at an auctionsituation.

“If you don’t stop running that pretty mouth, I’ll find another way for you to use it.”

Words shouldn’t be so hot.

“You’re a bastard if you think I’d sleep with you.”

“Oh, honey,” he says with a condescending chuckle. “I know you would.”

My gaze strays to his angry lips which are pulled back in a cocky smirk. “Too bad I’m off limits. You’ll have to dream about all the things my mouth can do that you’ll never get to experience.”

Grunting, he turns around and falls back into the seat. “Your pheromones tell a different story.”

I swallow a retort and cross my legs, rolling down the window a little to air the car out. “Don’t think because my body is literally made to be attracted to you it means I like you, Lucas. I don’t.”

“Whatever you have to tell yourself.” He rolls his window down too, and the rest of the glass in the car thuds with the force of the current, drowning out any more conversation.

You know when you swear you won’t do something, then one thing happens and all you can think about is doing that very thing that you swore you’d never do? Well, liking these men is that thing I swore I’d never do as soon as they finished paying for me. They bought me, for fuck’s sake. What kind of man does that?

Oh honey, I know you will.
