“I solemnly swear not to be a douche,” Marco whispers into my ear before kissing my cheek.

“Ditto,” Cory says with a laugh.

Dropping my gaze to my lap, I release my own chuckle and try to hide how vulnerable this moment makes me feel.

“Don’t do that.” Lucas’ finger catches my chin and lifts it so I have to look him in the eyes. “You don’t ever hide from us like that, understood?”

“Are you always so demanding?” I ask. Deflection is the name of the game.

“Only when I have to be,” he admits. “To clarify what you want, I’m going to ask this one time.” He takes a deep breath. “Will you be our mate?”

I bite my lip, glancing at each of them in turn. Marco’s lips kick up into an unruly grin. Cory’s eyes are hopeful but guarded. Lucas’ gaze is hungry. I couldn’t ask for better mates.

“Yes,” I whisper, half expecting the earth to crack open and swallow me whole.

It doesn’t.

Lucas places his hand on the back of my neck and gingerly presses his lips to mine, smiling against my mouth.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him this happy,” Marco says softly.

I break away from the kiss with Lucas to go to him next. Marco is just as gentle, like he’s afraid to break me. I go to Cory last, touching my hand to his chest. My arms ache so bad from the taser, but I don’t care. I need to touch him.

“I heard you.” I fist his shirt. “It took a fight that made me sick to my stomach to realize I was the problem.”

“We all have our flaws,” he says in a wise voice.

“Shut up.” I kiss him before he can respond, groaning when a sharp pain lances through my side. Not even the ache can stop me from clinging to the joy soaring through me.

Someone knocks on my door, interrupting our moment. We turn as one and Amelie sucks in a breath.

“Shut the fuck up. Now you want to be an omega?”

“I almost died. Don’t give me shit.”

She snorts. “Please, you’re getting so much shit as soon as we’re done dealing with the police.” Her smile falls, and she looks at Lucas. “They want to talk to you guys.”

“Right now?” he asks, disappointment coloring his words.

“I’m afraid so. I’ll stay with her to make sure she doesn’t run or change her mind.”

“Like a good beta, Amelie is there,” Marco sing-songs.

“I’m going to deeply regret this decision by the end of the night, aren’t I?” I ask him, rolling my eyes.

“I hope not,” he says, booping my nose and getting up to follow Lucas and Cory out of the room.

“Bitch, tell me. EVERYTHING.” Amelie squeals, runs, and tackles me onto the bed.

“Ouch, Amelie.” I groan, hating how much everything hurts right now. I’m never getting tased again. Would not recommend.

“Ouch, Reagan,” she mimics, but she does get off of me and says sorry. “Forgot about the bruising.”

“I thought you were supposed to protect people, not hurt them.”

She scoffs. “I didn’t hurt you, that fucker did.”

I frown and twist my mouth to the side.
