Asshole.

“We have wine at home,” Cory says, not deigning to glance up from his phone. “I ordered air purifiers too. Those should help.”

Home. Nerves flutter inside my stomach. Will anyone else live in the pack house? Or do they have enough money that other pack members live in their own houses? They’re royal, so I hope it’s the latter. I don’t know how I feel about living with a bunch of new people while I try to fight my omega instincts. The battle I’m about to endure is going to be embarrassing, and I don’t want anyone else to witness how my body instantly responds to these guys. Not to mention my heat… I don’t even want to think about how that will go.

One day at a time.

The bond between an omega and her pack is coveted, but that’s not what this is.

What if they date?

My chest rumbles softly, and Marco flicks his green gaze to the rearview mirror, askingwhat now?with the look. I dig my fingers into my palms and look out the window, letting the breeze float over my skin as I ignore the alphas in the car.

We drive for another twenty minutes before Marco turns onto a long, winding driveway. It’s dark, but with the little lamps dotting the road, I can make out the general surroundings. There are fields filled with what looks like grapevines. Large trees line either side of the driveway. My jaw drops when a large, white house complete with pillars and a fountain out front comes into view. There are six lamp posts at the edges of the circular drive, bathing the place in light. I try not to act overly impressed. The more I give these guys, the more they’ll take. That’s how alphas are.

Cory climbs out as soon as Marco parks, grabbing my bags from the back. Marco and Lucas share a look, having a silent conversation I’m not privy to. Both climb out, and before I can, much to my surprise, Lucas opens the door for me.

Ugh. He cannot be chivalrous.

“Such manners you have for your slave.” Unbuckling my seatbelt, I climb out and narrow my eyes when he doesn’t move away. I take a step to the side. “Guess I spoke too soon.”

He shuts the door hard enough to rock the car. One second I’m glancing around and taking in the lamp-lit property and the next my back is pressed against the car and Lucas’ hands smack down on either side of me, caging me in. From this close, I can see how stormy blue his eyes are. It’s a damn shame someone so douchey has such pretty irises.

Chewing on my bottom lip, I tip my head up to keep from cowering when he presses close.

“If you expect an apology, you won’t get one.” He growls. “We paid for you. You’re here. Deal with it.” His gaze drops to my lips. “And whenever you’re ready to deliver the offer you made me, let me know.”

“Um, what offer?” I ask, my face lining with confusion,

His lips quirk, and he lifts his gaze to meet mine. “What was it you said in the hallway?” He releases a dark chuckle that sends a shiver down my spine. “Oh right. Fuck you.”

I gasp, and he shoves away from the car, storming up the porch steps and into the house.

Marco and Cory wait for me to gather myself. Since they can both likely smell how aroused I am from Lucas’ words and proximity, I clear my throat and strut toward the house like I belong here and I’m not a slave.

They sure don’t treat me like one. I expected to be cuffed, dragged down into some cheaper room, and forced to do whatever grunt work they needed. On a positive note, they’re not like some of the other packs I saw at the auction, and for that I’m thankful. I should be counting my blessings. I could have it far worse. I hope the other women at the auction went with good packs. I hope they’re safe. I hope they are better omegas than I am.

The inside of the house isn’t as fancy as you might expect from seeing the outside. Instead of elegant chandeliers and fancy yet uncomfortable furniture, the decor is more comfortable. The walls are painted soft blues and greys, and the marble floor is dark and oddly welcoming. The entry way is cozy with a bench and cubbies for shoes. Lucas has already taken off his and is walking down a hallway with bare feet. I linger near the bench, wondering if I’m expected to take my shoes off too. Marco and Cory come in after me, and Marco gives me a knowing smile.

“We don’t wear shoes in our house. Normally, we have house slippers for our guests, but I don’t think we have any in your size.”

Cory taps away on his phone.

“That’s okay.” I slip off my heels, setting them inside a cubby.

“Your slippers will be here tomorrow.” Cory’s attention falls on my red toenails and he shakes his head, kicking off his shoes and setting them in a cubby.

“Cory can give you the full tour. I have to go check on something. Will you be okay?” Marco asks.

For some reason, him worrying about me makes me feel a little bit better. “Yeah, I’m okay,” I say, even though I still don’t like the situation.

With a nod, he heads down the hallway where Lucas disappeared. Cory studies me for a minute, searching for a weakness. The silence grows so thick that I swallow and glance away, hating the tension filling the room. He doesn’t seem rude, but he doesn’t seem like he’s thrilled I’m here either. My scent is stifling, and I can’t wait until the air purifiers arrive. Perhaps it’ll make things less tense, more bearable for them and less embarrassing for me.

“How about that tour?” I finally ask, looking at him.

He sighs. “Right, come on.” We walk to the first room with a big screen TV and leather couches. “This is the living room.” When he slides his gaze to meet mine, I notice his eyes are different colors. One blue and one green. They’re easy to get lost in. I make a point to nod and take in the room.

“Noted.” I smile when he rubs the back of his neck and shakes his head.
