“Actually,” the man with the belly interrupts me, “I think the boy has a point. I have a granddaughter on the way, and I can’t stomach the thought of her or my own children being hurt because of some ridiculous notion that the royals are better than everyone else.”

“The way you eat you won’t live to see her born anyway,” Cornelius spits.

Ugly is not a good look on Cornelius.

The poor guy he’s snarling at turns beet red.

“There’s no need to be nasty,” the mustache man says, frowning at Cornelius.

“Oh shut up, Len. You’re lucky to be on this council since you’re too stupid to do anything worthwhile otherwise.”

“No, Cornelius.” Len grimaces and stands, growling at the alpha. “I think you should shut up.”

“I concur,” another man says. “Shall we hold a vote?”

“Wait a minute,” Cornelius booms, but the other men ignore him.

“All those in favor of removing Cornelius from office, say aye.”

“Aye,” sounds around the room, a unanimous vote.

“You ungrateful mongrels. This council would be nothing without me.” Cornelius stands and slaps his hand on the table. “I made the laws. You can’t kick me off.”

A few of the guys scoff. Cory pulls out his phone and starts shooting off messages. I give him a funny look. There’s no way this is boring him. This is the best thing I’ve ever witnessed.

“Actually, we can.” Len smirks and quotes some rule from the Royal Council charter. “So you see, I’m not so stupid after all.”

I cackle, earning a glare from Lucas’ father. “Oops,” I say, not at all sorry. “Guess it’s time for you to run along.” I shoo him away.

He growls, but security suddenly bursts into the room.

“Escort Cornelius to his car,” Cory says, grinning at me. “He’s tired and needs a nap.”

I slap my hand to my mouth to keep from giggling. Of course he had security on speed dial, it’s kind of his thing. Once they drag Cornelius away, kicking and screaming, Len looks at Lucas.

“Don’t think we’ve agreed to your plan without further discussion. Change like this requires thoughtful action.”

“Of course.” Lucas nods. “Shall we sit?” He struts to the head of the table and takes his seat. “Here’s what I was thinking.”

ChapterThirty-Seven

REAGAN

Change, like all good things, does take time. It takes exactly two weeks to walk into the Omega Council headquarters. It takes the guys, Amelie, Jefferson, and Frank to convince me to take a job I hate with every fiber of my being. The only reason I agreed is because I get to make changes in a way that matters to me. For omegas.

Camila gasps when I barge into her office. “You,” she says with a snarl. “What do you want?” Her hair is pinned up in a bun, and she’s wearing a power bitch suit which is actually very flattering. If she weren’t such a cunt, she’d be beautiful. Her beauty is only skin deep though. She’s ugly on the inside.

“Camila, how lovely to see you.” I smirk at her as I walk toward where she stands behind her desk.

“Did they finally tire of you?” She scoffs. “I knew you wouldn’t make it. You’ve always been a bad omega and you always will be.” Her eyes glint with malice. “No worries though, another auction happens soon. There’s bound to be someone eager to get ahold of sloppy seconds.”

“Are you done?” I ask, sighing and sitting on the edge of her desk. “I’m trying to figure out how to say this nicely…” I pause and look at her, flicking my gaze between her eyes. “You’re fired.”

“Excuse me? Who do you think you are?” She puts her hands on her desk and leans toward me. “You’re lucky I don’t kick your ass for being a little bitch. Do you want to be shunned?”

“Camila,” Lucas says, voice thick with reprimand. Apparently, he’s done letting me handle this on my own.

“Oh thank God you’re here. This omega was just threatening me. I completely understand why you’d want to get rid of her.” Camila gives him a soft, fake smile.
