“What?” I demand.

Heavy breathing comes through the line, but no answer.

“Listen, buddy. I’m getting ready to block you unless you tell me what you want?”

No answer. More creepy breathing.

“Fuck it. You’re blocked.”

I hang up and tap on the call list, but before I can block the number, another call comes through. I press ignore and finish blocking it. Scowling at the screen, I set the device down, daring the caller to try again. Obviously, no calls come through so after a minute of glaring, I roll my eyes and stand.

“Jerk off.”

I walk out of the room and grab the vacuum. My phone rings as soon as my feet hit the first step. Simmering in rage that’s a little too intense for a few prank phone calls, I roughly set the vacuum down and storm into my room.

“Hey, asshole! I don’t want whatever you’re selling, especially not if it comes with that ragged ass breathing.”

“Reagan?” Marco asks. “What’s going on?”

“Oh, it’s you.”

“Who else would it be? Who’s the asshole?”

I scrub my face and glance at the clock. It’s two in the afternoon, so the guys have a few more hours of work. “No one. What’s up?”

“No one has ragged ass breathing?”

“It’s nothing, seriously. Just some jackass with the wrong number.”

“Right,” he says, sounding unconvinced. “We’re off early for the day. We’re ordering pizza, but we don’t know what you like.”

“Meat lovers.”

He snorts. “Should’ve known.”

“Pervert,” I mumble, smiling to myself. “Isn’t it too early to order?”

“The local place where we live gets ridiculously busy. It’s better to call it in now than risk not having pizza.”

“Pizza has never been so in demand.”

He chuckles. “You haven’t tried Mario’s. We’ll be there in an hour or so; it’s a long drive back.”

“Oh good, I’ll hide the drugs.”

“Don’t you dare. I call dibs on the shrooms.”

“Something tells me a tripped-out Marco is a riot.” I twirl the end of a piece of my hair. “Sadly, I have no drugs, but I do know of a wine cellar ripe for the plundering.”

“Plundering?”

“One of my favorite pastimes, really.”

I can practically hear his smile. “Well, wait for me to plunder, okay? We can skip the workout for the night.”

“Oh thank God. I’m so sore.” In the background I hear Lucas ask who is plundering who and Marco barks out a laugh, disconnecting the call after saying bye.

I set the phone down and head to finish chores, ignoring the dinging notification. Megan probably wants to tell me all about her checkup.
