“Why us?” Lucas asks suddenly.

“We’re royal.”

He frowns. “There are plenty more royal packs. Why us?”

I lift an eyebrow. He knows why. His father is the head of the Royal Council. Hurting our pack would hurt him, if only because of the familial link. It doesn’t make sense to hunt omegas though. That’s the part I don’t understand.

“I’ll call him to request a meeting,” Lucas says, gaze wandering off to the side. “Twice reeks of plans, and I don’t like whatever is happening. Reagan can’t die.” His chest rumbles with a growl, and I nod in agreement, my own growl sounding.

Warning bells blare in my head. We shouldn’t feel this invested in her safety. We’d protect anyone within our pack, but already I feel the possessive anger vibrating in my veins. I need to go hit the punching bag a few times to get out this tension before Reagan and I meet up later.

I don’t want to scare her.

There they go again, bells as clear as crystal that seem to scream:She’s not your omega.

It isn’t but ten seconds after the pizza arrives that Reagan magically appears in the kitchen. She grins at me when I give her a knowing look and rubs her hands together.

“I haven’t had pizza in years.”

“Years?” Marco asks, walking into the kitchen and stopping next to Reagan. “No pizza where you’re from?”

“Oh, there’s plenty. When I turned sixteen, I wasn’t allowed to have it anymore.”

Marco and I exchange glances.

“Why’s that?” I grab four plates and wait for her to answer.

She lifts the lid of the box and inhales, sighing in appreciation. “It’s not part of the approved diet.”

“Hold on. You’re telling me that omegas can’t eat pizza after they turn sixteen?” Marco looks horrified.

“Nope. Apparently you alphas don’t like cushion for the pushin’, and pizza is dangerous.”

“That’s the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard. I love cushions.” Marco shakes his head. “Fucking Omega Council.”

I snicker. “You’d think Camila would know every alpha has different tastes, but like Marco said, I’ve never disliked a little softness.” I place a piece of pizza on a plate and hand it to her. “Have as many slices as you want.”

Her eyes widen like a kid in a candy store.

“Well,” I say quickly, “don’t make yourself sick, but don’t feel like you have to hold back on our account.”

“Besides,” Marco grabs a slice and takes a big bite, “Cory here eats a whole one by himself.”

“You’re an animal,” I say, shoving a plate in his direction. “And it’s a small pizza. You make it sound like I’m eating fourteen slices.”

“Six slices.”

“Whatever.” I take a few pieces and scoot over when I see Lucas walking over. “Hey, man.”

“Ascension will be here tomorrow.”

“Those guys are pros,” Marco says with a nod. “Smart move.”

“What’s Ascension?” Reagan asks, nibbling on her pizza. I take an extra big bite when her gaze lands on me, letting her see we’re all good with her eating pizza like a normal person.

“Security company,” Lucas offers, much to my surprise. “They’re going to install some systems for us to make sure you’re safe while we’re gone.”
