Today is a deep cleaning day where I focus on baseboards and crevices. Since this mansion is huge, it’ll take me at least half the day to get through the job. Frank follows me down the hall, keeping a safe distance but watching my moves all the same. I plug in my headset and get to work, jamming out to my blasts-from-the-past playlist.
I finish the baseboards by noon and decide to save the crevices and corners for another day. I swipe my arm across my forehead and toss the rag into the washer with the rest of the towels. I’ll do the laundry tomorrow morning.
“Frank, I love ya, but you can’t follow me into the shower.”
He startles and takes a step back from where he’d been lurking. “Don’t say stuff like that. The alphas will have my head.”
Sighing, I rub my face. “The alphas aren’t here.”
“There are microphones. They can hear if they want.” He gives me a once over. “You’re a nice girl, but I don’t want any more trouble.”
Nice girl.
Oddly enough, I’m not insulted by Frank’s words. For once, it’s nice not to be wanted. Frank isn’t an alpha, he’s a beta. Most betas are drawn to omegas too. He’s never even checked me out, which is saying a lot. Frank is all business and the slipup yesterday when I begged him to take a break is obviously a one off.
“I hear you,” I say. “For any alphas listening, I was joking. Don’t fire Frank on my behalf,” I shout at the ceiling.
Frank snickers but quickly wipes the smile from his face, adopting his serious demeanor once more.
“I’ll be done before they arrive.” I resist the temptation to pat his arm when I pass him. Lucas isn’t the best at controlling himself, and I do like Frank. He doesn’t need me creating problems for him.

“Hi, I’m Reagan.”
The petite woman at the door is wearing cat eye glasses, a tight bun, and a mischievous smirk. “Hello, doll. This here is Norris and Marissa. I’m Katie.”
“Nice to meet you.” I step aside to let them in.
Katie struts in and whistles; the cute little sundress she’s wearing whirls when she spins to take in the foyer. “They sure do know how to live, huh?” She waggles her eyebrows at Marissa and Norris as they push in the large cart filled with cases.
“The tile is beautiful,” Marissa says to me. “Did you coordinate the design?”
“Me? Oh God no. This isn’t my house. I’m the maid.”
She shares a curious look with Katie. “I’m sorry. I thought I smelled omega.”
“You did.” I smile to make it less awkward, but my baring of teeth has the opposite effect. “I’m an omega and the maid.”
“An omega maid?” Marissa’s brow furrows.
“Yup.”
“Where are we going?” Norris cuts in, saving us from an awkward silence.
“In here.” I lead them to the kitchen, nodding at Frank as I go by. He takes out his phone and taps out a quick message, likely letting Cory know they’ve arrived.
“Oh man. I love this stove,” Katie says with a dreamy sigh. “No matter how many times I see it, I can’t get over it. Norris, put the cart in the pantry. We’ll put the cold stuff in the fridge. Marissa, can you grab the rest of the stuff from the car?”
“Right away, Katie.”
“I’ll help.”
The three of them stop what they’re doing and look at me like I’m crazy.
I bristle. “What?”
“We were hired to work. We can take care of things from here.” Katie gives me a winning smile. “Why don’t you go relax. We’re going to get some things set up, and we’ll be out of your hair in no time.”
