Not really.
Oh, who am I kidding? Mateo's right, I'm a terrible liar.
"There was another woman at one point who I thought he would tie to him, but she was a real asshole. For me, it's been hard to find someone who kept my interest. I have what you could call infatuation A.D.D."
"Infatuation A.D.D.?" I echo his words and pick at a loose thread on my shirt.
He nods and flicks on his blinker to pass a car.
A law-abiding vampire. How cute.
"Essentially I fall for a lot of people, but within a week or so I grow bored."
If this is meant to be a reassuring conversation, he is failing.
Grayson shoots his gaze to me when silence fills the space between us.
"Fuck. What I'm saying is, I'm not even remotely bored. I literally cannot stop thinking about you and how you might react to the tiniest of things." He points to a deer on the side of the road. "Like that, all I could think of was what you'd say when you saw it."
I frown. "I'm not sure obsession is much better than infatuation A.D.D."
Grayson runs his hand through his hair, rumpling it in the process. "Demi," he pleads. "I'm trying to make you understand."
"I get what you're saying, Grayson. I do, but I'm a little worried you'll get bored with me."
He beams at me.
I narrow my gaze. "That's not something to smile at."
"Hold on, tiger." He turns on his blinker and merges onto the exit ramp. When he finds a good place to park off a nearly deserted road, he turns the car off. "I'm smiling because you want me to want you."
I roll my eyes. "Thank you, oh wise one, you've unlocked the mystery of the universe."
Grayson presses the button to move the driver's side seat back. "Come here."
Crossing my arms over my chest, I scowl at the windshield. "I don't like feeling like you're laughing at me."
He growls and tugs at my arms, breaking them apart. "You never listen, do you?" He picks me up and sits me in his lap.
Those ocean blue eyes hold my gaze. He runs his thumb over my lower lip.
"I'm not sure how I can make myself any more clear, tiger. You're the one I pick."
"What if I don't want it?" I challenge, placing my hands against the top of his seat.
Something akin to hurt flashes over his face, but he quickly covers it up, pretending to be amused and wrinkling his eyebrows. "Come on, you know you want this."
"Grayson."
That's all I need to say. He drops the act and looks away.
"If you don't want it, I'll find a way to deal with it."
"Grayson," I say again, waiting for him to look at me. When he does, I say, "That's all I needed to hear."
His lips lift. "I knew you wanted some of this."
I roll my eyes. "You're ridiculous."
