Demi

Zander wasn't able to find Lacey either. After his failed attempt to locate her, he showed me the proper way to use my new senses to find a person. I can track Lexi's movements if I want to. I check on her again for practice, not because I'm an obsessive stalker.

Okay, maybe I am a tad obsessed with knowing what she's doing. Can you blame me?

Colt, Grayson, and Mateo have been holed away, calling their contacts and trying to find Lacey. I went up to check on them a while ago, but I think it's fair to say the administrative side of things aren't my forte. If they need me to kick ass, they know where to find me.

"I'm so tired," Tyra says around a yawn when the movie we were watching finishes.

"Me too," I confess. "I'll see you in the morning?"

"Yes, please. Colt is so boring."

"He's not so bad," I say, winking at X.

She snorts. "Yeah but we're not banging him."

"I feel attacked."

X points her finger at me. "You should, you little vixen."

I wrinkle my nose. "Whatever, I'll see you for breakfast."

"Night," Zander calls after me.

"Love you, Demi," X shouts before I can close the door.

"Yeah, yeah," I mumble in response.

I leave them in their suite and head to the elevator. When I get inside the carriage, I stare at the buttons. My hand hovers over floor twenty-seven for a second. I glance at the one for Mateo's floor.

No. I don't want to come off as clingy.

What if he doesn't want me there?

We slept together the other night, but is that an open invitation?

I press number twenty-seven.

"Don't be a Beatrice," I tell my reflection as the doors close.

She got herself killed by pining after a vampire.

In the middleof the night, Grayson finds his way to my apartment and lets himself into my bed. He wraps his arms around me and I snuggle into his hold. Him not trying to feel me up says a lot about how worried he is.

"We'll find her," I say, making a promise I have no business making.

"I'm going to kill whoever took her."

I bite my lip and think about all the enemies the Blood Mafia must have. There's no telling how many of them knew about Lacey. How will we figure out who took her with no scent trails and no way to trace her? What if we're already too late?

"Sleep, tiger. I didn't mean to wake you."

"It's okay, I wish I knew what to do."

He buries his face in my neck and takes a deep breath. "This is the best thing you can do for me right now. Sleep and let me hold you."
