"Kick his ass, Demi!" Tyra screams.

I see a few vampires glare at her, but I don't have enough time to worry about them because Zander's foot is about to smash into my face. Squealing, I duck and punch up, connecting with the back of his knee before rushing to the other side of the ring.

"Damn it," he says, shaking his leg out as he eyes me. "You're pretty good, Demi. A few more weeks and you might be able to take me."

I narrow my eyes. "Might?"

He smirks. "I said what I said."

Cocky bastard.

Rushing forward, I try to take him by surprise. Zander's smart and sees it coming. In four moves he has me pinned to the mat and his arm presses into my throat, cutting off my air.

I have no choice but to slap the ground and tap out.

He laughs. "Don't be mad, D. You did good."

When he gets off of me and I can breathe again, I scowl and stand. "I'm going to kick your ass so bad someday."

Zander gives me a condescending look, like a father who thinks his daughter is precious for wanting to be a rocket scientist but doesn't believe she can actually do it. "I'll be waiting."

X tosses us waters. "Come on, Tyra and I are up next."

I twist the cap off the bottle and take a drink. "Good luck," I say and climb out of the fighting ring, plopping on the mat next to Zander.

One good thing about being a supe? I don't have to use a foam roller. My overspent muscles will repair themselves within the next hour. No torture devices needed.

For not having their supe powers yet, Tyra and X are fast and brutal. They're almost evenly matched, but X has a slight advantage with her speed.

After the first round, I let my eyes wander around the gym. I don't see Alissa. Maybe she's off on another job. I see a vampire who doesn't belong in the gym, especially with the babydoll dress she's wearing. Said vamp struts over to me.

Zander clears his throat and his eyes bug out when Evelyn stops in front of us.

I smack his arm. "Look away from the legs, dude. You're embarrassing yourself."

Evelyn lets out a smug laugh. "Hello, little Hunter. What's your name?"

His Adam's apple bobs when he swallows. "Zander," he says in a gruff voice.

"Hmm. Zander. You're cute."

Dear God, why do you hate me?

"Evelyn, leave him alone."

She widens her eyes and looks at me, pouting her lip. "What? I'm not lying."

I roll my eyes. "You're terrifying. Leave him alone. What's up?"

Zander is staring at Evelyn again, looking every bit the lovestruck fool.

It's pathetic what a pretty face can do to men. She could be coated in blood and I think he'd still have that ridiculous look on his face.

"I wanted to see if you'd heard from Alissa. She was supposed to come with me to go shopping. We talked about it last week, but I haven’t seen her since."

"Another one of your torture sessions?"

She narrows her eyes on me and places her hands on her hips, making the dress ride up. "Some people enjoy my generosity."
