"Where are you going?" Evelyn asks, voice filled with suspicion.

"If it were any concern of yours, sister, I'd tell you."

Evelyn growls.

"Oh for fuck's sake, you two. We're going to dinner with my parents. Get your shit together."

Demi uses her supe speed, leaving us behind.

Evelyn cringes and shrugs at me. "I didn't know."

"And you had no need to know, Evelyn."

She pouts and crosses her arms. "I hate secrets."

I more than anyone understand Evelyn's trust issues as I was the one to pick up the pieces of her broken heart at the hand of her former lover. Her issues don't give her a right to know all of my dealings, and she'll need to come to terms with that soon.

"Everyone, out. I need to get ready. We'll reconvene after the dinner and make a plan. Zander, keep trying to find them."

The Hunter stiffens when I glance at him, but he meets my gaze. "Is that a command?"

"Yes. Do you have a problem with that?"

Zander clenches his jaw together.

"Zander," X whispers.

"No." The Hunter rushes from the room.

Evelyn stares after him like he's a shiny new toy.

Colt looks between me and my sister. "Come on, ladies, let's go with Zander."

When he closes the door behind him, I lean my hands on the desk. "Don't, Evelyn."

She blinks at me and smiles. "What?"

"He's Demi's friend."

Her eyes flash with the temptation of the unrequited. While she won't trust herself to be in a real relationship, she doesn't mind having a friend. "He's a grown man." She runs a finger over her fangs. "Besides, he might like a little bite." Evelyn snaps her teeth.

"If you overstep, I won't stop her from seeking your head."

She throws her head back and laughs. "Oh brother, you're so serious. I won't hurt him, unless he asks me to."

She sashays out of the room and I scowl at her retreating back. Evelyn's going to make things complicated.

Just what we need. More complications.

Demi

"This is the restaurant you picked?"

Mateo shoots me a look which can only be interpreted asyou can't be serious. He's wearing dark jeans, a light gray shirt, and a black leather jacket. It's a totally different style than I'm used to, but I'm not complaining. Now he looks like an alternative bad boy who'll break your heart versus the mafia boss who will ruin your life.

"Right, the parents chose. So, what's the story? How'd we meet?"
