If she thought stabbing me would deter me, she's sorely mistaken. If anything, I'm more determined to make her mine. I'm beginning to sympathize with Mateo's outburst. He's shared blood with her twice. Physiologically, he's connected to her now. The third exchange will consecrate the bond between them.
He'll learn to share her, though. He has to. Otherwise we're going to have a very long and bloody fight.
Grayson glances at me, narrowing his eyes. "You look like you're about to murder someone."
Drawing in a deep breath, I force the tension to drain from my body. An eerie-calm floods through me and I give him a pointed look. "Better?"
Lacey grimaces. "Not really, if anything that's scarier."
"Good," I say before spinning on my heel and leaving them in the living room.
I'm going to make Demi see the error of her ways, worshiping her body while she screams my name again and again. I'll take her, break her apart, and make her a slave to my affection. After all, making Demi mad for me is the only way I can ensure I don't lose a piece of myself in her.
I won't let her go.

Grayson
Lacey and I watch through the window as Colt joins Mateo on the front porch. She sucks in the side of her cheek.
"Care to tell me what that's about?"
I ignore the question and grab Demi's brush. Lacey's hand covers my wrist.
"Leave it. I can try again in a few days, maybe I'll find something."
"Okay," I say and set the brush on the table.
Lacey stands, still holding her mug in her hands. She sips and studies me over the brim of the cup while I gather the bag of Demi's stuff.
"Grayson?" she asks when I turn to leave.
"Hm?"
"Promise me one thing."
I study the witch. She's never demanded much in return, but I've taken good care of her. She doesn't have to work—though she chooses too—, the house is paid off, and the stipend she receives is more than enough to keep her afloat. All that to say, I have no idea what she's about to ask of me.
"Promise me"— she sets the mug on the coffee table and moves around it, clutching my arm — "that you'll bring this woman to meet me."
A soft chuckle passes my lips. Of all the things I was thinking, this wasn't it. I expected demands for more money, a better house, or even a fancier car. "Yeah, okay. I'll bring her here."
Lacey beams at me. "I can't wait to high-five the chick who has Mateo's panties in a wad. She's got to be a badass."
"That she is," I say before kissing her cheek goodbye. "Call me if you find any trace of her."
Chapter Seven
Demi
By the time I finish a few rounds with Mack and the knives, I'm ready for a snack. One perk of not being kidnapped by vampires?
Snacks.
I help Mack wipe down the blades, clearing splinters of wood from the sharp edges and rubbing them clean. "Is the cafeteria only open at certain times?"
He takes the knives from me and lays them in their place on the table. He runs his eyes over the weapons, moving his lips as he counts.
