Grayson's waiting on the couch when I finish. His blue eyes trace over my body and I fight off a smug smirk. Yeah, he picked this outfit on purpose. Normally I'd give him shit for it, but it is my birthday. I can wear this tight red dress if I want to. It's the heels that are really killing me. I blame Evelyn for them, the four-inch pumps have her name written all over them.

Grayson didn't grab much make-up, so all I had to work with was mascara and a dark plum lipstick. I also didn't have time to curl my hair, so I blow dried it and called it good. I run my fingers through the soft strands, twirling a piece around my finger and giving him a sultry look.

"Well. How do I look?"

One second he's on the couch, the next my back is slammed into the cushions and his body is pressing into mine. He smiles, those sharp fangs taunting me.

"Good enough to eat."

"You better not mess up my hair," I say with narrowed eyes. "You'll regret it."

His eyes are stormy blue, but little strands of yellow interweave between the darker colors of his irises. "While I'd love to test you on that," he rolls his hips into mine and so I can feel how much he likes this outfit, "I have a surprise for you."

"Will I like this surprise?"

He frowns. "Aren't surprises supposed to be fun?"

"Usually they are, but I never know what to expect with you vampires."

Leaning down, he rubs his nose with mine and gives me a quick kiss. "Let's go."

Grayson jumps off of me and grabs me before flashing away. I clutch my stomach.

If he makes me throw up, I'm going to kill him.

Grayson

I set Demi down outside of her apartment building. She takes a moment to find her bearings before glancing around and taking in her surroundings. When she realizes where we are, she frowns.

"What are we doing here?"

Ignoring the question, I start walking up the stairs toward her apartment. She huffs.

"You really should have let me change shoes," she grumbles.

I find myself a nervous wreck for what's coming despite being hundreds of years old. I'm like a bloody teenage boy on his first date.

Demi doesn't realize it yet, but she's quickly falling for Mateo. I sense her unrest for what she did to Colt. Even after being stabbed, the bastard is light years ahead of me. My surprise should fix that, though. Demi's attraction to me is undeniable. I want to make it hard for her to forget about me when she's with them. If I have any chance of being part of her life in the way I want to be part of it, I need to work for it.

I stop at her door and wait for her to catch up. The little Hunter's cheeks are pink and she's breathing heavy. Once she gets her supe powers, she won't even notice stairs anymore.

"Grayson—" she begins, but I interrupt her.

"Consider this part one of begging for forgiveness."

Her mouth snaps closed and her eyes widen. She wasn't expecting that.

Good.

This whole surprise thing is going well so far.

"You can't stay long, and I've made sure they know that, but I'll let you be for an hour or so."

"I don't understand." There's a big crease between her eyebrows.

I grin at her, open the door, and shove her inside.
