The cushions feel like fire against my skin.

A strange, pathetic mewl leaves my mouth.

"Good, Demi. Relax. You're doing great."

Nicole's once encouraging words rattle around in my brain as though she has a megaphone and is screaming in my ear.

"Hurts," I manage to gasp out.

"I know, baby." Maria's voice is soft and sad. I want to punch her for calling me that, but my arms are too heavy.

"Oh, f-f-fuck," I yell when the pain dials up from ten to one thousand.

A blinding white light flashes behind my eyelids before everything goes black.

"She'll be okay,"Nicole is saying when I wake up.

The process is instant, like every nerve in my body is jumpstarted. My eyes snap open, my vision hyper focusing on the people surrounding me.

Maria and Nicole are inside the cocoon.

The vampires are outside.

A fly flies in slow motion above me.

"Demi," Maria says my name, but it sounds like she's in slow-mo.

Now's the time to strike.

I roll into a ball then propel my legs forward, landing in a crouch and staying there for a second before rushing her. I snap her neck in one violent twist. Nicole's eyes have barely widened when I reach her.

She hasn't really ever done anything to me, but if I'm going to kill them all, she needs to go next. Next to Mateo, she's the strongest one up here.

Nicole's body flops down next to Maria's on the cushions. I do a front flip out of the cocoon of safety, smirking when the vampires scatter like scared little lambs.

Grayson has his hands up in placation.

Mateo flashes to me.

Wrong move.

I throw an uppercut, hitting his jaw in just the right spot. His head snaps up and I cackle, spinning and roundhouse kicking him before I use my new supe speed to rush around him and snap his neck as well.

One down, three to go.

"Easy tiger," Grayson says, grinning at me like he's enjoying himself.

I blink at him. Crack my neck, then widen my eyes, feigning surprise. "What's that?" I ask, pointing behind him.

The idiot looks.

Colt is too slow to stop me. The world blurs when I run. I slam into Grayson while he's busy trying to see what frightened me. I don't waste time punching him. His neck crunches as easily as those that came before him.

I dodge Colt and run to the other vampire.

Evelyn's sitting her happy ass on the bar and cheering for me. "Give me a D! Give me an E! Give me an M! Give me an I! What does that spell?"
