"Take the kid," I tell them, not caring who does what I ask so long as someone does it. When I hear the little heartbeat leave the alley, I glare down at the vampire.
"I wish I could say it was nice to know you, but I don't like lying." I dig my fingers into his skin. Blood spurts from the wounds and coats my hand. I yank my hand back and tear his throat open. Crimson liquid splashes across my cheek.
I don't stop. If I do, I'm not sure I'll be able to follow through with the next part. Reaching for my dagger, I grimace and saw through the rest of his flesh, pulling his head away from his body. I toss the head aside and stagger to my feet.
The lighter flicks to life on the first try. I hold it against his clothes and step back once they catch on fire.
The strange itching sensation flees my body the moment his skin starts to burn.
I glance up at Grayson and Colt, wiping the back of my hand across my face. "Now what?"
* * *
Colt
Demi's standing there next to a burning body, looking like she just took a three-hour nap. Her face is glowing and her red eyes are slowly fading and turning back to their normal brown color.
Grayson glances at the severed head. "I am not putting that in the car, Mateo will kill us."
"Fine. I'll carry it." She huffs out an irritated breath and snatches the head by its hair. "Is the child okay?"
I nod. "I compelled him to forget and dropped him off at the police substation a few blocks away."
"Good," she says, smiling at me. "We make a good team. You saving kids, me murdering asshole vampires." She mimics a chef's kiss.
There's no controlling the burst of laughter that explodes from my chest. This woman is perfect.
When I get a hold of myself and stop laughing, Grayson and Demi are both watching me with looks of wonder.
"Damn, dude. It wasn't that funny."
Grayson's one to talk, he practically giggles like a little bitch every time he's with her.
Demi scowls at him. "You're ruining my moment, Grayson."
He winces. "Sorry, tiger. Colt never laughs like that, I had to give him shit."
She walks to him, holding the head by her side. She pats his cheek with a bloody palm. I try not to point out she's leaving a crimson handprint behind.
See, I don't ruin moments. That's Grayson's job.
"Remember your promise?" The words leave her lips in a seductive purr.
Grayson nods.
Tipping her head toward me, Demi says, "I want Colt to come too."
I move my gaze from the Hunter to meet his blue ones. I'm thoroughly confused. I don't know what the promise is and why she'd want me to come.
His trademark smirk is plastered across his face. "Do you think he can handle it?"
Now he's just being an asshole. He knows I'm confused.
Demi shoots a look over her shoulder. Her brown gaze flits over my body in a rather objectifying way. "What'd you think, Colt? Can you handle this?" She gestures between her and Grayson.
Ah. I see what our little warrior wants. I check her out in return. The blood doesn't bother me, vampire, remember? She's fucking delectable.
"Babe, I'm not sure why you feel the need to ask me that. I should be asking you if you can handle the both of us."
