Fucker shouldn't have touched my woman.
A little voice in the back of my mind tries to remind me she was never mine to begin with, but I ignore it and focus on Colt's inquiry.
"If you were truly dead, I'd care. You're not."
Colt doesn't respond.
"Find her."
"I'll try," he says, not sounding overly confident.
"Do I need to call Evelyn?"
He grunts as though I punched him in the gut. "No, I'll handle it."
"Good, we'll be back tomorrow."
I don't say goodbye. I hurl the phone at the ground, smashing it to pieces.
Grayson's face swims into view through the murderous rage clouding my vision. "Boss, focus. We're almost done here."
Clenching my teeth together, I glare at him and adjust my tie. "I'm not mad."
He holds up his hands, the cuffs of his suit riding up to reveal the slew of tattoos covering his wrists. "I didn't say you were, I said focus."
Semantics.
He's right, though. I turn to face the vampires crowding in the small warehouse. We have one hundred and fifty. Grayson planned well. Now if we time everything correctly, Sisco's entire operation will be destroyed come morning light.
Then I can return to San Francisco and hunt down Demetria.
She may think she can hide from me, but she can't. She'll never get away from me.
Chapter Three
Demi
The vehicle comes to an abrupt halt, waking me from a fitful sleep. We were about an hour outside of San Francisco when my body insisted on resting.
I'm wide awake now, though.
Nicole is punching in a code to a keypad. The car is idling in front of a massive steel gate. When she finishes entering the numbers, the little box beeps and a loud screech fills the air as the metal wheels roll back. When there's just enough space for a car to pass through, Nicole zips in.
I turn around, frowning when all I see is open fields behind us. The gate starts to close and I face forward, watching the gravel path wind as we make our way into what looks like a military fortress. Windowless buildings line the road, large heavy-duty tents filled with jeeps take up the space between the structures.
Maria turns down the music when Nicole navigates to the first open spot in one of the dark green fabric covered parking lots. "We're here."
I hold back a sarcastic comment, choosing to continue ignoring Maria for now.
Following her and Nicole out of the car, I walk out of the tent and toward the third building. The entire area is surrounded by trees, but I'm certain there's a fence running the length of this property. You don't have an entrance like that without making sure the rest of your land is secure.
Maria walks like she's ready to tear down the world, and I admire her for being so confident. Nicole, on the other hand, is smooth like water. If you passed her on the street, you wouldn't think she'd be able to kick ass. Her tank-top reveals enough of her shoulders and arms to tell me she's just as strong as Maria.
I slow when Nicole walks through the door. Maria holds it open, raising an eyebrow at me when she sees my hesitance. I can almost read her thoughts.
What, now you're scared?
I'm not.
