"Changing your mind," he says casually before lifting his shirt from my legs and burying his head between my thighs.

Oh fuck.

I take another big gulp of coffee, then set it down because I don't want to spill the glorious drink. I gasp when he bites the inside of my thigh and draws blood. Then his tongue swirls over my clit before devouring me.

"Don't. Oh, God, yes. Please."

Mateo pulls back for a second. "You're sending mixed signals."

I glare at him.

He grins. "Just stating facts, baby girl."

"Mateo," I plead and pull on the back of his neck.

His throaty chuckle vibrates against my pussy and my eyes roll back.

Motherfucking vampires.

It's so hard to hate them.

* * *

I endedup wasting too much time with Mateo. The other Hunters are nowhere to be found when I go knock on Colt's door. The vampire is missing as well. I place a hand over my heart, rubbing at the unease that settles there.

They're fine.

It's only nine-thirty in the morning.

Mateo picked me up and flashed to my apartment, wanting whoever we passed to see that I was in his shirt and he was carrying me home. The big fucking brute.

Thankfully, we only saw a few vampires since it's morning and most run on later schedules. They're not all nocturnal, but it's normal not to see many people until after lunchtime.

I'm dressed for a workout, and I suspect that Colt took them to the gym. Supe speed is a nifty little power to have. . . but I don't really want to rush down that many flights of stairs to get to my friends.

The elevator it is. Since Colt's apartment and the guest suite are the only rooms on this floor, I don't worry about seeing any vampires. I'm also less concerned about it in general. After Mateo's test with the squadron, I don't feel as threatened.

I reach the floor with the gym without any issue. When I step off, I run straight into Trey. He's the only one from our fight that's mad. He's pissed because I beat him and mad that once again, I'm the reason he's been killed.

Technically, the first time was his fault.

"Cunt," he snarls the word at me, shoving into my chest and knocking me back.

I catch myself before I fall and push my palms against his chest. "Back off, asshole."

He hisses at me. "You're going to pay for that."

Before he can move, a dagger presses against his throat and Zander yanks the vampire's hair. "That's no way to speak to a lady," he says with a savage smile.

"Zander!" X yells his name, but the Hunter doesn't bat an eye. She turns pleading eyes on me. "I'm so sorry," she says.

Tyra crosses her arms, not concerned with Zander's sudden murderous rage.

"What was it you said? You're going to pay for that? Let me tell you something you might not know. Hunters stick together and I won't let you shove Demi around, regardless of the fact she would have dropped your ass without issue."

"What's going on here?" Colt asks, voice hard as stone and biting.

"Uh—" I begin to say until Zander cuts me off.
