The next fewdays are relatively quiet. Alissa’s been gone on her job, so I’ve taken to sparring with Zander. Occasionally X and Tyra want to test their skills against us, but it’s pitiful to watch them get their asses kicked so we only agree to one fight each.
Zander and I are sitting on the mats outside of the fighting ring, watching a nasty fight between the two women.
“Do you think this gets in the way of their relationship?” Zander asks after X punches Tyra in the stomach.
Tyra is doubled over, sucking in air as X bounces on her toes.
“Probably not, they’re trained for this. If anything, I’m sure it spices things up in the bedroom.”
Zander glances between the two women, his eyes linger on Tyra. “Maybe.”
I sigh. “Can I ask you a question?”
He gives me a guarded look, but nods.
“Are you waiting for Tyra?”
Sucking in a surprised breath, he glances away and works his jaw. “It’s none of your business, Demi. Drop it.”
Yeah, how about no.
“She loves X. She loves you too, but as a friend. Don’t waste your life waiting for someone who won’t reciprocate your feelings.”
His laugh is tinged with anger. “What makes you think I’d listen to you? You’re in bed with the enemy.”
I raise my eyebrows. “The enemy let you in when you had nowhere else to go.”
He grimaces. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“You’re mad, I get it. I only met you a few weeks ago, but I know you well enough now to know you deserve a woman who wants you.”
His eyes are stormy with emotion. “Tyra and X are like family, I’d never do anything to get in their way.”
I nod. “I didn’t say you would. Listen, I’m sorry for bringing it up. It was none of my business.”
Running his hand through his mop of curls, he releases a tortured groan. “I hear you, Demi. I do. I hear you.”
The tension building between my shoulders loosens. “We’re good?”
“Yeah, we’re good.” He lifts his head to look my way, but his gaze is pulled over my head. “Hey, Colt.”
I glance at the vampire, surprised he managed to sneak up on us.
“Grayson's waiting for you in your apartment. I figured I'd keep your friends company again."
X and Tyra join us on the mats and the three Hunters exchange looks that are less than excited.
I stand and walk over to him. "What, no hello?"
“Hello,” he snarks.
“Are you dismissing me?” I ask, shaking my finger at him.
Colt's lip twitches. "You're welcome to stay with us, but Grayson was adamant you'd want to see his surprise."
"I'm not sure. . . usually surprises around here involve kidnapping."
He doesn't laugh.
