"Where would you like us to put our things?" Nathaniel asked, turning to our host.

Jeff cleared his throat and indicated the second floor. A set of stairs along one wall led to a balcony with rooms. The stairs started in the middle and headed toward the front door so the balcony wasn't cut in two.

"The first door is my room. The next is a spare bedroom followed by the bathroom and second spare bedroom. You can decide which room you want."

Heck no. I was not sharing a bathroom with Nathaniel. I'd seen his bathroom on many occasions. No woman deserved to have to share with the man. He was the Warlock, but that did not deem him a perfect man.

Nathaniel looked at me.

"I don't care which one you take," I told him immediately.

"Are you sure?"

"Yup."

"Alright then, I'll take the far one. You can have the one closer to the stairs."

It was so kind of him, but I wasn't planning on using one of the spare rooms. Nathaniel started up the stairs, but I lagged behind.

"Do you have anything I could eat?" I asked the warrior-healer, trying to delay and let Nathaniel get into his room before he stopped my plan.

"Sylee is picking up my groceries, and I finished the last of my cookies this morning. I've got some milk if that's okay?"

I raised both eyebrows at him. Forget that I hated the man for his sins, having no food for me upon my arrival was bad manners.

"I usually eat with Drew and Jazz, so I forgot about the whole needing food thing." He attempted to excuse himself, but I wasn't buying what he was selling.

"You don't have cereal?"

"I don't like cereal."

"Eggs? Bacon? Bread?"

"Nope."

I gawked at him.

"Then what do you eat for breakfast?"

"Cookies."

My gawking didn't cease. He had to be kidding. "You don't expect me to eat cookies for breakfast too, do you?" He'd better not.

Jeff shook his head. "No, Sylee is picking up food so you can eat whatever you want. If I missed putting something on the list, just let me know and I'll either pick it up later or have it picked up by one of my siblings."

"Fine. Now, I'll need your help unpacking."

His brows furrowed as confusion clouded his dark chocolate eyes. "Why do you need my help?"

"You'll know when we get there." I tugged my suitcase and duffel bag up the flight of stairs, the Elemental at my back, and reached for his doorknob when he spoke up.

"That's my room. The next one is yours."

I didn't let his words stop me but invited myself in.

"Um, Tessa, you did hear me, right?"

I flung my duffel on the bed and hefted the suitcase to sit next to it. "Yup."
