Page 2 of My Summer Fling

“Annie!” I yell, and her head flies up. Once she spots me, she comes running, and we follow Teddy and Noah over to an empty booth that has a bit of privacy.

“There’s my sweet girl!” Teddy coos, rubbing Annie’s ears when she jumps up on the seat next to him. It forces Noah and I to sit on the same side.

Stupid, traitorous dog.

Noah puts his arm around my shoulders, squeezing me closer to him. It sends a flush through my entire body, and not the good kind. I shake him off as best I can without calling attention to my obvious discomfort, and he just smiles and winks at me. I look up into those big, brown eyes and give him a look.

It makes him laugh.

It infuriates me.

He leans closer, whispering in my ear while my brother is distracted by my dog.

“Where’d all this sass come from, Millie-Moo? Hm?” His breath is hot on my ear, and I have to remind myself that he is not good.

He. Is. Not. Good.

“So,” Teddy begins, forcing Noah to pull away from me. “First, Millie, I was wondering if we could have the wedding on Pawley’s Island and use your access to the beach?”

“Of course!” I tell him excitedly. “I would love to have everyone descend on the area for a while. Grandma would have loved that.” I reach across the table and take his hand, giving it a tight squeeze as we take a minute to remember her.

I’ve been living in her home on the island in South Carolina since she passed away a few years ago. Being a headhunter, I can pretty much work from anywhere. So when she left the house to both me and Teddy in her will, it was a no-brainer that I take it.

Teddy is rooted to the West Coast. Not only does he work in Hollywood, but I couldn’t imagine him anywhere else. California is in his blood, and he wouldn’t be happy living in a little shack on the coast of the Atlantic.

“Are you sure, Millie? I don’t want to sugar coat it. Beth and I wouldn’t be able to get out there for everything. We would have to rely on you to help us get everything together.”

“I work from home 90 percent of the time,” I reassure him. “It’s really not a big deal. I’ll rope my friends on the island into helping. A lot of them remember grandma, and I’m sure they would love to help her only grandson get married on the island.”

“And maybe…” he trails off, turning to look at Noah. “Maybe Noah could help if he accepts being my best man.”

“Dude, of course!” Noah shouts excitedly, jumping off the bench and leaning over the table to pull Teddy in for another hug.

It’s an effort to not outwardly groan again.Fuck.I do not want to be stuck in a small town with Noah. And I won’t only be stuck with him … I’ll have toworkwith him on this wedding.

Suddenly, I’m regretting saying yes to hosting the wedding.

“Millie-Moo!” Noah cheers as he sits back down and pulls me into a bone crushing hug. The next time he calls me by that nickname I’m going to judo chop him in the throat. “Lucky for you I can pretty much work from anywhere as well. So I can hop on a plane and come help you any time you need me!”

“Oh, I’m sure that won’t be necessary, Noah,” I tell him as I try to plaster a smile on my face. I won’t let what happened between me and Noah ruin Teddy’s excitement.

“May as well use him if you can, Mills,” Teddy says before giving Annie tons of kisses on her head. She basks in it, panting and wagging her tail. “It’s a lot of work.”

I smile and nod, focusing on my cocktail instead of Noah’s hot body next to me.

Oh,shit. If looks could kill, am I right?

She is not happy to see me, but damn am I happy to see her. And see her I do. My eyes eat her up like I’m a starving man. I haven’t seen her in years—eight to be exact. Fuck, she looks good. All long legs and curves for days. Her hair is long and curled into perfect waves that would look so, so good wrapped around my fist as I fucked her from behind.

She gives me the side eye while I stare at her, and I give her a wink, smiling at her in a way I know makes my one dimple pop out. She rolls her eyes and looks away, scooting a few inches to the edge of the seat.

“So when’s the big day?” she asks Teddy, trying hard to turn her attention away from me.

“We’ve decided on August twelfth.” Teddy gives almost all of his attention to her dog, Annie. Giving her kisses and pets as she leans into him.

“Beach wedding in the hottest month of the year,” I say, leaning back in the booth and spreading my legs so that my knee bumps against Millie’s. She pulls away quickly, and I can’t help but smile at the look on her face. “I hope it’s clothing optional? Can the groomsmen wear trunks? I’d love to see all the bridesmaids in their bathing suits.”

I nudge Millie and she groans.
