“Do you mean like a date?”
“I do. It occurred to me that in trying to protect you and make sure the mate bond set, I rushed through a very important step in our courtship. The actual courtship.”
I stared at him, unsure what to say.
“Ms. Vaughn, consider yourself officially courted.”
Butterflies.
His words brought fucking butterflies to my stomach.
“Meet me on the bridge at ten pm, Ms. Vaughn. And I’ll show you exactly what you’ve been missing over there in that tower.”
He ended the call, smirk emblazoned in my mind just as bright as the double Ts.
“Well, it’s about time,” Sunny said, strolling into the bedroom. I was still slack-faced, shocked at what just happened.
“Did you help him? Explain my feelings or his feelings to him?” I asked.
“Nope. He figured it all out himself.”
“Uh, well. I guess I’ve got a date tonight, then.”
Sunny grinned at me. “I’ll have one of the tower stylists bring up a selection of dresses for you.”
“Really?”
“Of course. You’re not getting laid in any of my clothes, that’s for sure.”
I chuckled, and soon B reentered the room. “All clear? I didn’t hear any yelling or furniture breaking, so I’m guessing everything went OK?”
I nodded. “Better than OK, B.”
“She’s going on a date,” Sunny said.
“Oooooooh,” B said in a comically accurate impersonation of a teenage girl. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
I laughed. “Judging from what I heard last night, there isn’t much you wouldn’t do, B.”
“We need to get those sound-proof witch bottles looked at, Sunny. I don’t think they’re working.”
“Oh, they’re working fine, Rory. You’re just loud and newly mated like the rest of us.”
When we finally got back to our research, I had a very difficult time staying focused.
Witches, supernaturals in general, were just far less interesting than imagining all the things Julian might have planned for us tonight.
At the very least, I was finally going to get a decent meal.
But at most?
I had to be careful about how much I thought about all the things tonight might bring, or sensitive vampire noses might catch on to where my thoughts were.
Sunny’s nose twitched.
Too late.
She was far too much of a lady to say anything, but that did little for my embarrassment.
