“Do what?” She took a sip of some kind of apple martini.
“Always look like you’re ready to hop into a Volkswagen bus and tour the countryside with an easel and a paint palette in your leather pouch.”
She leaned toward me and winked. “Because I am.”
I chuckled. “And I believe it.”
“Did Grandma Millie tell you the good news?” she asked. “I haven’t told Grace yet.”
“What is it?”
“I’m moving into Grandma’s house until I get my bearings.”
A mixture of surprise and worry darted through me. Nina was my older sister, and we’d always gotten along. Partially because we were all each other ever had growing up.
But a roommate?
I smiled and nodded. “Wow. That’s awesome news.”
“Grandma said you were never at the house even though you had a bedroom there.”
“Did she say that?” I laughed as Cash brought over my drink.
“She did, indeed.” Nina winked at me. “And I can see why you wouldn’t bother.”
I took a sip of the cider, and the fire of liquor ran down my throat. “Whoo!”
“It’s some kind of cinnamon liquor.”
Nina chuckled. “Goldschläger, I bet.”
Cash nodded. “That was it.”
“That’s good stuff. Enjoy!” She lifted her glass and trundled to Grace.
“So, what did Nina have to say?” Cash asked. “You looked like you choked on a cayenne pepper.”
I chuckled. “She said that she’s staying in town and will be living at Grandma’s house.”
Cash smiled. “That could make it cozy.”
I nodded. “Grandma is always at Jackson Sr.’s, but I haven’t lived with my sister since I was a teenager.”
Cash eyed me with a funny look. “You do realize you spend all of your time at my house, right?”
I grinned and took another sip of my drink. “Only because you told me all of your rentals were booked up and I can’t figure out how to work Grandma’s thermostat.”
“Likely story,” he hummed.
“Isn’t it crazy that nearly from the moment we met, we’ve lived with one another?”
Cash nodded. “I was just thinking about that. Who knew that playing nurse would lead to such good things?”
“I could say the same about being a patient,” I teased.
“Being with you has been so easy,” he said, taking a sip of his drink.
“Minus the guy running after me in your home and trashing the place, a lawsuit, and criminal proceedings.”
