“I asked about you, kitten. Not me.”
She smirked at the old pet name I used to have for her. “Life is hard as hell. It always has been, you know that. There is something nice about being forced to follow someone else’s lead. To be honest, I thought it would bother me and at first it did. That guy I told you about was only willing to be my Dom in bed. I wanted someone who would live the lifestyle with me fully and he wasn’t interested in that, so we split up. After some experimentation, I finally hit subspace and I knew after that I would never turn back.”
Everything she said screwed with my head. I hated the idea of her with other people exploring her sexuality, but it wasn’t like I had any control over her past. I loved how empowered she had become and how she set out to find what she needed, but at the same time, I wished the person she did all this with was me. Now we were pulling up to my parents’ house for Christmas Eve and Kyra had just admitted she wanted a full time Dom. My mind knew it was a terrible idea, but my cock was all for the thought of bringing her back home, tying her to my bed and throwing away the key.
“Wait here. I’ll come around for you,” I said as I put the car in park and got out. The driveway was slippery and the last thing I wanted was for her to fall. I opened her door and reached a hand out to help her to her feet before tucking her into my side and walking up the sidewalk to the front door.
My mother was there before we even had a chance to knock. “You’re here! Oh, I’m so happy!” she said as she pulled Kyra in for a hug and ignored me completely.
“Hi, to you too, mom.”
“Oh honey, don’t get yourself all worked up. I see you all the time. It’s your girl I’ve been missing!” she said as she pulled Kyra from me and into the overcrowded house.
Heads turned and people made their way to Kyra as soon as we walked in. My poor kitten looked completely overwhelmed, so when I hung up my coat, I turned and pulled her back from my mother’s hold, and reached to help her with her coat.
“Hey, look at me,” I whispered to her, holding her face in my hands, “If they become too much, just tell me and we’ll leave.”
She shook her head. “They are fine, really. I’m okay. I just forgot what it’s like here with so many people.”
I placed a small kiss on her lips and hung her coat up just in time for my sister Noelle to reach for Kyra and pull her away from me.
“I thought for sure mom was lying when she said Jack was bringing you here. I’m so excited! This weekend is going to be amazing. When did you two get back together?”
“I… um… we—“
“It’s been recent Noelle, don’t stress her out, okay? I don’t need her running from me the first time I take her out of the house.”
I placed a hand on Kyra’s back and realized we probably should have come up with a decent story rather than spent the morning fucking, but I wasn’t going to complain. If Kyra wanted someone to take charge, then that I could do.
“Come on, let’s get a drink and then it will be easier to deal with everyone else.”
In the kitchen we found Eve and Holly making mimosas, and I’ve never been happier to see them. “I’ll take one of those, thank you very much,” I said as I made my way around the counter and scooped up a glass, handing it to Kyra.
“So you really are here,” Eve said with a smile, “You never know with mom, she’s always so hopeful, but none of us thought Jack would actually make it happen.”
“Make what happen?”
“Well, mom makes the same Christmas wish every year. She runs down a list of all our names and makes her wish as to who we will end up with. A crazy tradition, but she’s a little nuts. Year after year, you have always been her wish for Jack. Now here you are.”
Kyra looked up at me with a questioning stare. “You never said anything.”
I just shrugged, then shot Eve a dirty look. My mom’s strange tradition didn’t start until we were in our mid-twenties and Kyra and I had already broken up by then.
“Holly, where’s that man of yours? Wasn’t he supposed to be on leave for the holiday?”
“He was, but one of the guys in his unit had a family emergency, so he stayed so his friend could come home.”
“That sucks.”
“Yeah it does.”
“Let’s get out there before mom sends out a search party for Kyra. I already foresee a very long night of her listing all the reasons why each of us needs to settle down and get married,” Eve said, rolling her eyes.
Kyra’s body tensed next to me and I lifted my hand to her back again, rubbing slow circles, trying to get her to relax. I should have thought this whole thing through better. My family was too much on a good day. Now, after nearly ten years of not seeing Kyra and never bringing home another woman for my parents to meet, there was a very good chance she’d break down on me before the night was over.
I watched as my sisters left for the living room and pulled Kyra into my arms. “I didn’t think this through very well. My family is still just as crazy as they were when we were kids. In fact, probably more so now, so let me just apologize for everything they are about to do or say.”
I looked down at the smile on her face and took in a deep breath, waiting for her to respond, “It’s okay Jack. I love it, really. I always wanted a big family. It is just taking me a bit to get used to it all again.”
