Irub my eyebrow as I stare up at Ronny’s house. Mental distress grips me as I feel like I’m about to get sick.
All my movements still just before I nervously twist a lock of hair around my finger and then pull my hand away, catching myself losing my mind in worry.
But I can’t stop. Running my hand over my face I try to take deep breaths to calm myself, but it’s not working. My posture is stooped and I bite my fingernails trying to talk myself in, or out, of this moment.
Maybe the other two board members will vote how dad wants them to vote…naturally.
No way. I’m just lying to myself. They’ve got their payday on the line so no way they’ll go through if we pull the money back.
But what if Ronny reneges on his promise after he gets what he wants?
Damn, this decision is a pain in the ass in so many ways. And that’s just the analytical aspects. The emotional parts could turn out to be devastating in the future, keeping this secret but always knowing what I did to get to where I’m going…the top of the company.
Is this the kind of b.s. women face when climbing the corporate ladder? Bribes covered with more bribes, trying to keep people who aren’t even invested that much in the company’s health happy?
The wise choice is for the company to go to me, and for my dad to keep running it. Everyone knows that, but everyone also knows my dad is between a rock and a hard place and this is the time to secure a big payday for themselves.
“Glad you could finally make it,” a Snidely Whiplash-type voice says behind me, causing me to damn near jump right out of my heels. “Somebody’s nervous, aren’t they?” Ronny continues, brushing my hair off my shoulders with the back of his hand before leaning in to smell my neck.
So. Gross.
“Ummm. If your pussy smells anything as sweet we’re both in for one heck of a night.”
I swallow hard, ready to cancel this whole thing, to face the music the other way…to hell with the company, but I stay strong.
“But first,” he continues. “I saw how you were looking at that mechanic today. How you spoke with him.” He pauses. “What was that all about?”
“None of your damn business,” I say, finding my resolve.
“Oh, it is my business, because if you’re not a virgin, if he got to you first, made you used goods, then we have to renegotiate.”
“Used goods? You’re fucking sick,” I spit at him, taking a step away and looking at him with disgust.
“You’re just figuring that out now.” Without missing a beat he motions with his hand. “Come. We’ve got a reservation we don’t want to miss.”
“That wasn’t part of the deal.” I fight back.
“You don’t want a little romance first? A little foreplay to get you in the mood?”
“I swear to God, Ronny. I’m damn close to backing out of this whole thing and leaving you here with your little dick in your hands if you don’t stop acting like more of a prick than you already are.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be a good boy,” he says, raising his palms in surrender.
I take a deep breath in and blow it out.
“Where do you plan on taking me?” I stab my hands into my hips, the urge to leave now hitting a fever pitch.
“We have a reservation, and who knows…play your cards right, and maybe all we’ll do tonight is talk, nothing more.”
“Only talk?” I cock an eyebrow.
“Maybe. Let’s see how things go first before we decide how things go after.”
My brows knit, wondering what he’s up to. Maybe he’s decided he wants the financial aspects more than the physical ones. Maybe seeing me with Axel threw him off, and lessened his desire for me.
“You try and take me somewhere that’s not a public place, somewhere to harm me or my father and I swear I’ll call the cops.”
